Whooping cough (pertussis) cases are the highest they have been in 14 years. This can be especially dangerous for infants under 12 months who have hospitalization rates of up to 33%. Make sure your vaccination is up to date if you are pregnant or around infants. Those with rapid violent uncontrolled coughing fits getting worse 1-2 weeks into illness often causing vomiting and shortness of breaths and/or making sleep difficult should be evaluated. Most people say this is the worst cough of their lives. See video below for the classic “whooping” cough.

A potentially deadly disease in infants, whooping cough — pertussis — has exploded in Michigan this year, in part because of decreased vaccination rates.

We are seeing an increase of mycoplasma pneumonia (walking pneumonia) in our area. Check out the full article or symptoms listed!

Attention parents! Cases of walking pneumonia are on the rise. But there’s no need to panic. Walking pneumonia is a less severe form of pneumonia that usually causes a mild respiratory infection. Most cases of pneumonia are viral so there’s no specific treatment other than rest and methods to treat the fever and cough. This type of pneumonia usually gets better after a few days, although the cough may last longer. Bacterial pneumonia needs antibiotics, which help kids feel better a few days after taking them. Symptoms of pneumonia include fever, problems breathing and a bad cough. If your child has these symptoms, talk to your pediatrician and visit HealthyChildren.org for more info: https://bit.ly/4fuzusM
