Back in January, I embarked on what I thought was a health protocol. I was brimming with enthusiasm, planning weekly updates about my progress and the entire experience. But after only a few posts, I went quiet. Well, here I am! For now, let's fast forward to today.
Eight months have passed. Despite feeling like I was taking the tiniest baby steps, or even standing still at times, I can now see how every single day was significant. The active days, the days I completed every task, the lazy days, the sleepy days—they all contributed to a slow yet profound metamorphosis. Today, I am not the same person I was eight months ago. I've identified and reframed beliefs, found deeper conviction, reignited passions, and continued to reunite pieces of myself.
Not quite the health protocol you imagined? Me neither. It’s better. And you might be wondering how this relates to health at all.
Sometimes, true health requires you to trudge through some muck. It means pausing to ask why you’re feeling a specific emotion, leaning into fear, and surrendering to crumbling so you can rebuild yourself even stronger.
A golden key to this perspective is prioritizing presence over perfection. I’ve forgotten supplements, missed journaling, and skipped walks. There are no excuses, only opportunities to learn more about ourselves. If perfection is the goal, you’ll never win. But if you consistently show up with compassion for yourself, you’ll never lose.
And if you’re still curious about my symptomatic changes, here’s a brief rundown:
In the first few months, I experienced mild breakouts exclusively on the left side of my face (which wasn't happening before!). Then my cycle became a little wonky and I started spotting before my period (also new for me). After that, I noticed increased energy, fewer cravings (no more "hangry" moments), and my skin cleared up. Labs at the end of April showed an uptick in my A1c, and my Vitamin D levels almost doubled.
Healing is neither instantaneous nor linear. Huzzah!
