Awareness doesn’t bring equity.

Acceptance doesn’t bring equity.

Appreciation doesn’t bring equity.

Valuing brings equity. When we VALUE the existence of another we will actively create a world that supports their well being.

Autistics aren’t broken nor are they missing any pieces. And it’s not a spectrum of how “bad” someone “has it.”

Autistics brains are as different as any other brains. Not inherently better. Not inherently worse. We just live in a culture that wants us to be so disconnected from ourselves that when we interact with a person who is on a deeper wave length we are confused and label/stigmatize it.

There once was a little girl who had to go away.

It wasn’t safe to stay.

She wandered into the woods and curled up on a bed of leaves and grass.
There she fell into a deep sleep.

The earth noticed the girl and knew she needed protection.

So the earth gathered soil up around the girl to hold her gently. Then, softly drew the girl down inside of the earth to keep her safe.

A brick wall formed around the space along with rocks and boulders.

A thick fog came and hovered over the place.

They were all there to protect the girl as she slept.

One day someone came to find the little girl. She was drawn to the place where the little girl slept.

She sat with the fog until the fog went off to play on the river.

The bricks, rocks and boulders saw the gentle kindness of this person.

They also felt the presence of the trees all around who were witnesses.

They made space for the person to come and stand at the spot.

She poured the water that she carried onto the spot.

The water seeped into the space. The little girl felt the water touch her. It trickled down her forehead, onto her shoulders and touched her heart.

She woke and wondered where she was.

She squirmed and stretched and pushed up against the soil which easily gave way for her.

She poked her head and arms through the hole and looked around.

She saw a person sitting a few feet away.

The little girl looked away feeling uncertainty.

She looked down at the soil and realized she was covered with mud, grass and leaves.

Surely, she would be in trouble.

When she peeked at the person again, all she could see was love and kindness.

She reached out with both arms extended.

Her person came to her and lifted her out of the hole.

Her person told her that she was safe now and could stay with her forever.

The little girl clung to her person and snuggled in.

Her person held the child close and rocked her back and forth singing,

“I will be gentle with myself. I will hold myself like a newborn baby child.”

Dear life,

Grant me the courage
To change what I am capable of changing
And the grace
To accept what is beyond my control
And choose my battles wisely.

Please help me to fix what has fallen apart and is broken in my life
That would benefit from being mended
And accept what would not
And move on accordingly.

Grant me the strength
To fully seize each day
And make the most of each moment
Savouring the ones that provide me with joy, meaning and fulfilment

And remind me to treasure time spent with those I love
And pursue my passions and what uplifts and energises me
And focus on all that lies ahead of me
Rather than all that lies behind me.

Please help me to embody love
And radiate it to all whom I encounter
Regardless of whether they remain in my life
Or are no longer with me.

Please help me to remain calm and at peace
During the chaos and shifting seasons of life
And flow with it
Understanding that everything is fleeting and temporary
But that the true nature of who I am is eternal
And more than this limited body
And transitory physical experience

Please show me how to let go of fear, pain and resentment
So I can feel light, unburdened and free
And prioritise what is important
While disregarding what is not.

Please comfort me in my grief
And reassure me with the knowledge
That I will one day be reunited with those I love who have left this reality
But remain in spirit with me

And in the times when I feel hurt
May you show me how to heal and move forward

In the times when I feel small and fragile
May you remind me of my inner strength

In the times when I feel weak
May you remind me of my inner power

In the times when I feel lost
May you help me rediscover purpose and meaning

In the times when I feel lonely and isolated
May you remind me that everything is interconnected

And in the times when I have lost confidence and trust in myself
May you help me remember who I am.
