Most people know what a “bad therapist” looks like.

But not enough people know what good therapy actually feels like.

It’s not someone fixing you.
It’s not someone giving constant advice.
It’s not someone pushing you to move faster than your nervous system can handle.

Good therapy feels steady.
Grounded.
Honest.
Safe enough to be real.

Over time, you don’t feel more attached to your therapist,
you feel more connected to yourself.

If you’ve been in therapy before…
what felt like a green flag to you?

Love seeing our members share their spaces and the work they’re doing here. Brett brings such a calming, restorative presence to the Collective, and his bodywork services have been an incredible addition to what clients can access in one place.
If you’ve been curious about massage or incorporating more body-based healing into your wellness routine, definitely check out his post and give him a follow. Grateful to have you here, Brett.

It's been four months and some change since I moved my office into the GR Therapy Collective on the Beltline here in Grand Rapids. The reception has been great and I'm incredibly grateful to be working alongside some very talented therapists and bodyworkers. Have you checked out the new space yet? What's stopping you? Check the link in the comments to see what services I offer or feel free to reach out and let's chat about how I can help you reach your wellness or pain management goals.

Have you ever been afraid to question your therapist?

To disagree.
To say “I’m not sure that fits.”
To admit something didn’t land right.

A lot of people assume therapy is something you just receive, but it’s actually meant to be collaborative. You’re allowed to ask questions. You’re allowed to challenge things. You’re allowed to say, “Can we slow down?”

I just wrote a blog about questions you can ask your therapist- not to be difficult, but to make sure the relationship actually works for you.

Because if you can’t speak up in therapy, where can you?

I’m genuinely curious-
If you’ve ever held something back in therapy, what was the fear?

Judgment?
Conflict?
Being misunderstood?
Disappointing them?

Vote in the poll 👇
And if you’re comfortable, share more in the comments.

Let’s normalize this conversation.

A lot of people sit in therapy holding questions they’re afraid to ask.

Then include searchable language:

If you’ve ever wondered:

Is it rude to question my therapist?

What if therapy isn’t working?

Can I disagree in therapy?

Short answer: Yes. You can.

I’m honored to share that I was recently featured in VoyageMichigan, highlighting the work we’re doing at GR Therapy Collective and the vision behind creating a collaborative, trauma-informed space here in Grand Rapids.

This interview touches on my clinical approach, the importance of community in healing, and the heart behind building a collective where both clients and clinicians feel supported.

Grateful to be part of a community that values deep, meaningful mental health work.

First responders and medical professionals are trained to keep going — even when their nervous systems never get a chance to turn off.

Trauma doesn’t always come from one event. Often, it builds quietly over time. This post explores medical trauma, how it shows up in the body, and what trauma-informed therapy can look like.

If this resonates, you’re not alone.

“Do I need therapy… or am I just stressed?”

This is one of the most common questions people ask before they ever reach out for therapy — and usually, they ask it quietly.

If you’ve ever thought:

“I should be able to handle this”

“Other people have it worse”

“Maybe this is just a busy season”

“I don’t know if this is ‘enough’ for therapy”

You’re not alone.

Stress is a normal part of life.
But when it doesn’t ease up — when it lingers in your body, your thoughts, your sleep, or your relationships — that’s often a sign it’s worth having support.

Therapy isn’t only for crisis moments.
Many people start therapy because they want:

clarity

relief from constant mental load

help understanding patterns

a place to not hold it all together

I wrote a new blog exploring this exact question — how to tell the difference between everyday stress and when therapy might actually help.

No pressure. No labels. Just information.

If you’ve been wondering this quietly, this is for you.

Finding the right therapist can feel overwhelming — especially when you’re trying to decide between telehealth and in-person therapy.

We wrote a new blog that walks through what actually matters when choosing a therapist, what questions to ask, and how to decide which format may be the best fit for you right now.

Therapy isn’t about finding the “perfect” therapist. It’s about finding the right fit for where you are.

Therapy progress isn’t a straight line — and that doesn’t mean you’re doing it wrong.
Healing includes ups, downs, breakthroughs, and hard days. All of it counts.
Even when it feels messy, real change is happening. 💚

If you’ve ever wondered, “Is therapy even working?” — this is your reminder that growth doesn’t always look the way we expect.

✨ Caption: Why You Do What You Do ✨

If you’ve ever wondered “Why do I keep doing this?” — you’re not alone.
So many of the patterns we struggle with today started as ways our mind and body tried to keep us safe.

Indecisiveness.
People-pleasing.
Shutdown.
Procrastination.
Burnout.
Self-sabotage.

They aren’t flaws — they’re learned responses.

When you gently understand what part of you is trying to help, everything shifts.
Awareness builds choice.
Choice creates change.
Small steps create real healing.

If you're ready to understand your patterns with compassion and learn how to work with your system instead of against it, therapy can help you get there.
