Kaija H, Certified Peer Support says this about becoming a Peer Support Services along with why/how peer support services are so impactful:
Why did I become a peer support specialist?
🌼Because I know what it feels like to walk through darkness and wonder if you’ll ever find your way out. I became a peer support specialist to be the person I needed when I was struggling—someone real, someone safe, someone who understands. I’m here to walk alongside others, not in front of them. My lived experience allows me to offer support with compassion, connection, and zero judgment.
What do I love about being a peer support?
🌼That I don’t have to pretend.
🌼That I can walk in with my scars visible and say, “You don’t have to be fixed to be worthy.”
🌼That I get to witness people slowly start to believe they’re not too much, not too broken, not too late.
🌼That I don’t save people—I remind them they can save themselves.
Why is peer support different than other services?
🌼Because I get it.
🌼Because I don’t talk down—I sit beside.
🌼Because I don’t throw out buzzwords—I speak from lived experience.
🌼Because I don’t ask people to trust me blindly—I earn it through truth, presence, and showing up like their life matters. Because it does.
Why is KWC a great place for support?
🌼Because we hold space for the messy, the beautiful, the in-progress.
🌼Because here, you’re not a diagnosis or a case number—you’re a human being.
🌼Because healing happens here—not through perfection, but through connection.
