The Power of Patience: Devion’s Journey After Spinal Cord Injury 💚

At just 32, Devion Holbrook of Mount Morris faced a life-changing spinal cord injury. His journey brought him to the Mary Free Bed Adult Inpatient Spinal Cord Rehabilitation Program in Grand Rapids, where every day became a lesson in resilience.✨

With the guidance of his therapy team, Devion regained independence one skill at a time. He met each new milestone – whether it was learning to get dressed or transfer in and out of his wheelchair – with grit, determination, and a strength of spirit that powered his next personal goal.

Surrounded by his loved ones and care team, Devion graduated from inpatient rehabilitation in Grand Rapids. Today, he continues to push forward in outpatient therapy and in daily life, proving that the greatest comeback stories start by finding the courage to keep showing up. 🌟

This Spinal Cord Injury Awareness Month, we honor Devion and every patient who teaches us what perseverance truly looks like.💚

Another unforgettable finish line moment! 🏁✨The 18th Annual Run For Sight 5K in Muskegon was a day filled with movement, community and purpose.

Every mile made a difference in supporting the Association for the Blind & Visually Impaired (ABVI).

ABVI’s mission is to help individuals living with low vision or blindness thrive in a sighted world.

To all the runners, walkers, hand cyclists and supporters who showed up thank you for bringing the energy! 💚

A special thanks to the incredible team of volunteers. This event wouldn't be possible without your time and heart. 🧡

🎾✨ Meet Stella, the cutest and most iconic baby at the US Open!

It’s time for the Mary-est Moment of the Week! Our photographer, Tony, shares his favorite happenings in and around Mary Free Bed. This week, we’re shining the spotlight on Stella — our tiniest tennis sensation with a whole lot of star power! 💖👶✨

ICYMI, Stella stole hearts at the US Open with her adorable smile and stylish pink cranial remolding helmet — a true fashion icon in the making!

Tennis superstars like Coco Gauff, Aryna Sabalenka, and Carlos Alcaraz even signed her helmet! 🌟🖊️

And the best part? Her fabulous pink helmet was custom-made by Shannon, a prosthetist and orthotist at Mary Free Bed Rehabilitation Hospital in Grand Rapids! 🙌

It’s safe to say… Stella served up some serious cuteness and left a lasting impression on and off the court!

🎒📚 Back-to-school season means back-to-school pics! Our A+ Mary Free Bed Kids outpatient therapists joined the fun with their own “first day” snapshots ~ Mary Free Bed style.

They shared what grade they’re entering in MFB Years, how long they’ve been rocking the therapist role, an – of course – what they want to be when they grow up!
From helping little ones take their first steps to cheering on big milestones, this team makes the honor roll every single day. 💚

Thanks to a grant from the Christopher & Dana Reeve Foundation, former Mary Free Bed patients enjoyed a wonderful weekend-long adaptive sailing expedition with our recreational therapist, Matt!⛵️

This weekend was all about independence in action for our Spinal Cord Injury Support Group. Between raising sails, tying off lines, and even steering the boat, participants got the chance try new things.🌊

With the serene backdrop of Lake Charlevoix, participants also had the chance to relax, unwind and make new friends.🧡

Nothing says "Michigan summer" like a trip to the lake! We're incredibly grateful for the support that makes moments like this possible.💚
