Sean Robinson started Grand Rapids Counseling Services in 2006 with a vision of helping people improve their quality of life . Sean earned a Masters of Educational Psychology from Baylor University in 2005. That same year he became licensed to practice psychology. In addition, he is a Certified Advanced Addiction Counselor (CAADC) and a Substance Abuse Professional (SAP). Sean has since grown his practice to include five other clinicians and additional services to further provide services for the individuals in the community.
Therapeutic Philosophy
We believe that a therapist’s primary goal is to help his/her clients discover and develop solutions for their presenting problem by offering insights, techniques and resources that will allow the client to better manage current and future situations in a healthy and rational way.
Grand Rapids Counseling Services is committed to employing evidenced-based practices that are supported and approved by the U.S. Department of Human Services – Substance Abuse & Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA). In order to provide the most effective outcomes for our clients, Grand Rapids Counseling Services utilizes a number of approaches with treatment and services. The Transtheoretical model in conjunction with Motivational Interviewing, has become the most widely acceptable ways to conceptualize problem behaviors and enhance client change. Both models are utilized in order to provide a level of uniformity throughout groups. In addition, the Diagnostic Statistical Manual IV Edition (DSM-IV) and five axis model is used as the standard for diagnosing clients and communicating with other professionals.
