Getting corrective surgery to remove disability is a BIG change for the kids we serve. For so many of them, their disability has become a defining part of who they are. So when they no longer have it, they go through a bit of an identity crisis. That's why at CURE Philippines, Child Mentor Grace is going through an activity packet with CUREKid Charlotte. The activities are intended to help the kids think through and process the massive change that is happening in their lives, and who they might be (or want to be) when they're no longer defined by their disability.

For Charlotte, she wants to be a doctor after this is all said and done!

Adem was born in a remote Ethiopian village, several days' travel from CURE Ethiopia. He was born with a leg condition that turned his feet backwards and robbed his body of the strength needed to stand up on his own feet. Because of his condition, Adem walked on all fours, making him an easy target for the bullies in his community. They would shout "baboon" after him when he walked by.

But while his condition set him apart from all the other kids, Adem still needed to help his family, and like the other boys in his community, it was his responsibility to herd the family's cows and goats. He did this on all fours, literally scaling mountains in the process!

However, Adem has now undergone several corrective surgeries at CURE Ethiopia and is walking upright for the first time in his life!

But to Adamou, it's all just another game to giggle at!

In the countries where CURE works, a child born with a disability often faces a lifetime of stigma and exclusion — unless someone steps in!

When you sponsor a surgery with CURE, you're helping perform a modern-day miracle! Bodies are being restored, and as a result, children's futures are being opened up to once-impossible possibilities!

If that's not the will of God being done here on Earth, just like it is in Heaven, we don't know what is!!!!

This young lady was born with a disability called clubfoot where her feet curved in on each other. Regardless, her parents had the courage to speak truth over her life and gave her the name Ability. For years, she struggled to painfully walk, and she was also the focus of all the neighborhood bullies.

But when we met Ability, we asked her what she was most excited about once her feet were straight, and all she told us was that she wanted to ride a bike!

Now, her dream is a reality! After surgery, recovery, and physical therapy at CURE Zambia, Ability's feet are straight, and she can ride a bike!

Sometimes it's the little things we take for granted that mean the world to the kids we serve!

CUREkid Menelisi took some time to practice her writing on the CURE Zimbabwe Playroom whiteboard:

"I love CURE Children's Hospital.
The doctors and nurses are kind.
We are teached to love God."

Hundreds of thousands of children live with treatable disabilities in the countries where CURE works — not because a cure doesn’t exist, but because care is out of reach.

That's why CURE exists! To provide sponsored surgeries to kids for whom treatment would be otherwise impossible. And to share the Gospel right alongside meeting the physical needs.

Heal the sick, and proclaim the Kingdom of God.

That's the whole mission right there!
