Hello Facebook family, friends, and future patients!
It is cold outside!!!
Did you know that most people walk 75,000 miles by age 50, according to the APMA. WOW, it is no wonder our feet hurt and that pain affects our daily activity.
This kind of weather complicates things and keeping our feet healthy in this weather is challenge and a MUST!
It all starts with proper footwear. Keeping feet warm and dry with proper support will reduce your risk of injury and frost bite.
One of the biggest problem with winter is keeping feet warm and dry. Moist, damp and sweaty feet chill more rapidly. Using moisture wicking socks is essential to pull the sweat away from the skin. I really like smartwool socks. They do a great job and supply an insulating layer to keep feet warm.
Of course, waterproof footwear is a given. This will keep feet warm and toasty.
Persons participating in winter activities must have footwear designed for their sport or activities.
Make sure that your "boots" or skates are fit properly. You should have good rear foot control that immobilizes the rear foot and instep, but leaves room for the toes to move and allows for adequate circulation.
It is a good idea to have this checked and if needed, use custom orthotics to help with proper support.
So, if you are going to brave the conditions, be safe, stay dry, and have fun.
