Unfortunately, I see folks all the time, who were involved in a traumatic experience. Sometimes it’s life threatening, sometimes it’s a short stay in the hospital. But, it’s insanely different how those that are in shape get along, vs someone who has neglected their health for years.

We can’t be sure when we will have an accident, or when our appendix will burst. We can’t know if we will battle some disease that suddenly has us fighting to stay alive. However, for most of us, we have the ability to eat better, exercise, sleep better, and mitigate the damage caused by stress. Control what you can now. Don’t wait until a life altering event makes you realize you could be doing better.

There are guidelines set forth for the amount and type of activity we should engage in daily and weekly. We also try to enforce our own expectations on ourselves. For a lot of us, it doesn’t work often.

Engaging in any amount of activity above our baseline is a fantastic metric for beginning physical activity. Set daily and weekly goals and develop the habit of consistent movement. Find something that interests you and gives you a bit of happiness when you see progression. Be your own worst critic and your own best cheerleader.

Sometimes guys won’t admit when something is wrong, physically or mentally. Maybe they just need to talk to one another. Maybe they need to make some changes or speak with a professional who can help them deal with real issues they may be facing. ALEC is an acronym I thought was interesting you can use to help a brother out. November is men’s mental health month, so check on the guys in your life.

Let’s be honest, foot placement and how much I supinate my hands during a movement means diddly s**t most the time. Consistent effort and progression are all you need to worry about.

It’s hard enough to get it in on a consistent basis when not worrying about if you’re doing things the “optimal” way. Basic movements are plenty for almost all of us.

If you believe 50 is your end of the road, chances are, your daily habits do not align with the idea you can live a long and happy life well into your 70s, 80s, and even 90s. Take care of yourself now. Because if you do outlive your expectations, it would be nice to have a fully functioning bod.

You decide to indulge or relax today. That doesn’t mean you sabotage every other aspect of your health and wellness. Think of justifying your decision by making solid choices everywhere else. It’s ok to skip a workout or have something not on your diet here and there. However, your decisions quickly compound and can derail your progress or your motivation. Use these days to feel rejuvenated and gain momentum.

Continue to do better yourself and not build yourself up or polarize topics that aren’t an issue to begin with.
