Grandville Pediatrics

Grandville Pediatrics Watch this site for updates and information about our practice. Follow us on Instagram! We believe that children are not little adults.

Grandville Pediatrics was founded in 2001 with the idea that a small independent practice could provide high-quality patient care for infants, children, and teenagers and more quickly implement the ideas of its physicians, nurse practitioners and support staff. Their treatment involves specialized pediatric knowledge and care, closer follow-up, a higher dedication to care of the entire patient and an increased level of provider and nurse involvement. We are committed to maintaining this standard. We believe that patients and parents deserve thorough explanations about growth and development as well as illnesses, behavioral/developmental issues, and their management. Our providers and staff will take the time to get to know you and your children and respond to your concerns. We have worked hard to maintain a personal atmosphere where you and your children feel comfortable and are remembered by name. We are also small enough that you will know all of us well. Feel free to ask any of our existing patients and families - we are very different from many large, traditional medical practices. The best part of our job is the relationships that we build with our patient families over time! Our office maintains close relationships with local pediatric specialists and is well respected by the staff of Helen DeVos Children's Hospital and local obstetricians. We look forward to meeting you and your family!

Does pausing *before* you speak when you’re angry seem unrealistic?

You’ve probably heard that a short pause when you’re feeling angry or starting to get triggered can be a game-changer — it helps you respond more calmly, with more intention, and avoid things like yelling or saying things you regret later.

The trouble is, it happens when you’re already upset!

Parenting can be so unpredictable and we may have the best intentions or even do all the research on parenting techniques, but it seems like we’re never "ready" when those difficult moments come. Nobody’s thinking clearly enough to avoid a knee-jerk reaction to their kid’s behavior when the reaction seems to happen immediately!

Here’s the secret: it takes practice. WE’RE RIGHT when we say we just can’t seem to stop ourselves from reacting when our kids push our buttons. Once you’re already escalating, it’s MUCH harder to pause.

It’s not our fault — nobody taught us to observe and regulate our own emotions when we were kids. 🤷🏽‍♀️ But we can teach it to ourselves as adults!

Practicing and thinking about this skill when you’re NOT upset is key to mastering it — and ultimately improving your communication and connection with your kids!

There are many warning signs that may indicate that someone is bullying others. Recognizing the warning signs is an important first step in taking action against bullying. Not all children who are bullying others ask for help.

It is important to talk with children who show signs of bullying others. These warning signs can also point to other issues or problems, such as depression or substance abuse. Talking to the child can help identify the root of the problem.

Social media feeds are full of images of celebrities, influencers, and peers who young people may perceive as more attractive than themselves. Body dissatisfaction and low self esteem are commonly triggered by social media, especially among adolescent girls.
