Vision:
The Granger Swimming Pool Committee (registered as a non-profit org.) is dedicated to raising funds for construction and maintenance of a swimming pool for all citizens of Granger and the surrounding areas. Why build a swimming pool? Currently Granger does not have the privilege of having a pool. The previous pool, which was built in the 1930s, was closed in 2000 and demolished in 2002. It was great to have a pool, but it was leaking and repairing it would only have put a patch on a growing problem and consequently, not be cost effective. Plans are evolving to make the vision a reality. Efforts to reach our goal include fundraisers, land donation by the city and numerous in-kind hours by many of our supporters but we still have a long way to go to complete the project that will serve Granger and surrounding communities. The project needs your help. Please read further to get a broader perspective on the current plans and how you can help. Need for Project:
Kids tend to get into trouble when bored and have “nothing to do.” Summer break from school can leave the door open to unhealthy behavior for kids as they struggle with empty hours for weeks on end. For families in which both parents work full time, supervision during the daytime hours is difficult. In response to this pressing concern, particularly for the many kids in Granger where there are already limited summer activities, a swimming pool would offer a safe, high quality recreation during the summer months. As an added plus, the kids in the Granger community would have the opportunity to learn how to swim. Learning to swim can provide a safety net for the youth of today and their families now and in the future. The planned facility includes a twenty-five meter, eight lane pool with attached zero depth area, a bathhouse and mechanical room . This facility would be handicapped accessible and also allow for exercise such as water aerobics and water walking, swim meets, lessons, water therapy, recreational swimming and parties. We all know that swimming is good exercise and it can be a lifetime sport enjoyed by all ages. A community pool would provide a safe haven along with the health benefits swimming offers. Disclaimer:
This is a voluntary project led by the Granger Swimming Pool Committee comprised of a diverse group of energetic and dedicated volunteers with strong ties to the Granger Community. We don't have all the answers but together and with the support of community members, Granger City Hall and others at large, we can fulfill the vision of building and maintaining a swimming pool in Granger, WA once again.
