Today is Concussion Awareness Day! Did you know physical therapy can play a big role in recovery?

Congratulations to Jamie, Lexi, Maria and Nichole! These nurses from our Marshall and Granite Falls teams were among those from across Avera who recently graduated from our organization's Rising Nurse Leader program. This six-month program helps nurses expand their capacity to assume a titled leadership role in the future. Selected participants met monthly from March through August. Learning is built around the Avera Leadership Competencies and the American Nurses Association curriculum.

Did you know kids can benefit from BOTH school-based special education therapy AND outpatient PT, OT, and speech therapy?

👩‍🏫 School services focus on helping students succeed in the classroom. Therapists work on skills that directly support academic learning, like handwriting, attention, classroom communication, mobility around school, and social interactions.

🏥 Outpatient therapy is designed to build broader life skills. Therapists help kids strengthen movement, coordination, communication, and daily living skills—things they need at home, in the community, and throughout life.

💡 When children receive both, the two settings complement each other. Goals may look different, but together they create a strong foundation for independence, confidence, and success in all areas of life.

⭐️School therapy services and outpatient therapy services do not follow the same eligibility criteria. If your child did not meet criteria to receive PT, OT, or speech therapy services at school, they may still benefit from and be eligible to receive outpatient therapy services. Our therapy service representatives can assist you in making sense of your insurance coverage!

👉 If your child receives therapy at school, they may still benefit from outpatient services—and vice versa! Ask your therapy team how both supports can work together.
