Understanding Grief for Kids 🌈🧸

Just like our friends from Sesame Street say, grieving might not completely go away, but with time, it does get a bit easier. Remember, it's okay to talk about your feelings, ask for a hug, or share a story about the person you miss. By supporting each other, having open heart-to-hearts, and cherishing memories, together, we find strength and healing.

Remember, little ones, you're never alone on this journey. ❤️

Comforting Words in Difficult Times

Approaching a grieving family can be heart-wrenching.

It's often the simple, genuine words that mean the most. 'I'm here for you,' 'I'm so sorry for your loss,' or even a heartfelt silence with a comforting presence can bring solace.

Remember, it's the sincerity and intention behind your words that truly counts.

For more guidance on navigating these conversations, reach out to us.

We have exciting news…. After many months of prayer, negotiation and meetings we are pleased to announce a merge between Mackie-Whisenant Funeral Home and Heritage Funeral Service. With nearly 30 years of service to the Funeral Industry Mr. W. Ed Whisenant has stepped into retirement and with that decision has merged his firm with Ed Plemmons and Andy Thompson at Heritage. Our goal here is to maintain business as usual with the only big change is the name. After much thought and collaboration, we have decided to honor the original founder and re-name the firm “Mackie Funeral Service. We strive to maintain a high quality of service; with each family we serve in mind. This year Mackie has the privilege to celebrate 100 years on service to our community. It has been our privilege to assist each family in their time of need. Going forward we will be here and available for you as the need may arise. On behalf of W. Ed Whisenant, Ed Plemmons and Andy Thompson we look forward to many more years to come.

For all Funeral workers and mortuary staff 🖤

We are the forgotten but just as important profession in any time of crisis, whether it’s natural disaster, war, terrorist attack, pandemic, mass fatality and every type of fatality from accident, sickness and su***de.

Just a reminder that in the middle of all this chaos.... Some things in life still go on. In the funeral service industry we are still keeping all our doors open and still serving families even if it is by using means that were not so traditional until this virus arrived.

So if you see a funeral director, embalmer, celebrant, support staff, funeral assistants, removal techs, drivers, cemetery staff members, family service staff, or apprentices.... Let them know you appreciate them..

They are still leaving the safety of their homes all hours of the day and night to respond to a family's greatest need.

They are leaving their family to care for another family.

This is one of the most serious examples that I have seen in my lifetime of funeral professionals exhibiting true service that goes beyond just thinking of themselves.

Our staff at Mackie-Whisenant Funeral Home are still dedicated to serving your family in your time of need during the Covid-19. Guidelines set forth by the CDC and the Governor of North Carolina, at this time, effective today March 17, 2020, we will no longer be able to conduct receiving’s, whether at our facility or the gathering place of your choice. Funeral services and graveside services will be limited to immediate family members only. This will include spouses, children, parents, siblings, grandparents, and grandchildren. This has not been an easy decision by our staff, but we are committed to providing you with the best service and keeping everyone safe during this time. During this time of difficulty our staff is as close as a phone call. We are on call 24/7 and our office number is (828)396-3385. The staff is still available and will meet with those who have experienced a loss and will not deny a family the opportunity to have personal time with their family. Once we have been given updated guidelines and information, we will return to our traditional services. Our goal remains to serve the families we are entrusted to serve, and the protocols have been put in place to maintain a high level of safety. You and your family are our top priority.
