OSU Extension-Josephine County funding update

Today, the Josephine County Commissioners voted (2-1) to approve the proposed Josephine County 4-H/Extension Service District Budget for fiscal year 2026. Funds will be allocated from the existing service district fund balance; no new taxes will be collected for the coming year.

We appreciate the commissioners’ support for restoring a partnership with OSU Extension to benefit county residents.

In the coming year, we will focus on managing local 4-H and Master Gardener programs and preparing for a full return to service in the future. Some regional Extension employees will also start working in Josephine County again, providing residents with access to OSU faculty and research-based information to support agricultural production, food systems and health-related initiatives. We’ll also keep working to rebuild relationships and set shared goals with the county.

It’s National Nutrition Month! This year, the theme is “Food Connects Us”. Over the next few weeks, we will talk about connecting with food, the community, and culture. This week’s theme is “Connect with Food.” Here are some tips to help you connect with community food resources such as the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) and the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC):

• Visit your local farmers market. Many markets accept SNAP or WIC benefits.

• Look for matching programs such as Double Up Food Bucks, to get more fruits and vegetables. Use at participating Community Supported Agriculture programs (CSA’s), farmers markets, farm stands, and grocery stores.

• Check out your local food bank. Some may even offer cooking classes and other community events.
