This week is National Afterschool Professionals Appreciation Week, and we want to take a moment to give a huge shout out to the incredible staff at our Youth Enrichment Center!
Each day, they serve around 85 children, bringing energy, dedication, and joy into everything they do. Their hard work, patience, and care make a lasting impact on the children and families we serve.
We are so grateful for this amazing team and truly appreciate all that they do, this week and every week!

Looking to learn something new and meaningful?

Join us Fridays at 2:00 PM for our Sign Language class in the Conference Room.

Sign language is a visual language that uses hand gestures, facial expressions, and body movements to communicate ideas, thoughts, and emotions. It’s a powerful way to connect, build communication skills, and better engage with the world around you.

Whether you’re brand new or just curious, this class is a great place to start.

Today’s Grants Pass Family YMCA’s 'Mission Mover' is Jo, who is a part of the childcare team at our Youth Enrichment Center (YEC). She has been at the YEC for six years, working with our youngest members. Jo’s favorite part of the job is swimming with the kids and playing in the water. As a person with multiple disabilities, she loves to show people what is possible and inspire others to push past their limitations. Childcare is a passion for Jo, as she also works at Parkside Elementary. She just loves to serve families and her community. She is a level 10 child care provider with the state of Oregon. Jo has raised six kids of her own and is so proud of all that they have accomplished. Her calendar is full with her childcare jobs, but when she does have spare time, she loves being by the water and playing guitar. "I just love the Y and the people I work with, to be a part of a national organization that helps people is just wonderful," Jo says. She was nominated as our 'Mission Mover' this week for being dependable, reliable, and always having a "can-do" attitude. We are so lucky to have Jo helping our young people learn and grow here at the Y. Thank you for all that you do!

Today’s Mission Mover at the Grants Pass Family YMCA is Rachel, our Sports Coordinator. You may recognize her from her management role at the Caveman Pool over the last two summers. Rachel joined the youth athletics department in August and helps coach all of our youth sports classes. A graduate of GPHS, she played soccer and basketball and ran track. Rachel’s favorite part of the YMCA is the staff and coworkers; she loves the peer support and learning from one another. She really loves the Y and believes the impact is huge in our community. “It’s a safe place for so many in our community,” she says. “Working with the kids is a blast,” she adds. Rachel is being recognized for her outstanding leadership during spring youth programming, during which she created positive experiences for our youth and families. The recent Oregon State University grad has aspirations to be a professional writer. We are so lucky to have Rachel working with our youth; she brings so much joy to each class.

Empowering our community in Grants Pass

As the nation’s leading nonprofit committed to helping people and communities to learn, grow and thrive, our contributions are both far-reaching and intimate—from influencing our nation’s culture during times of profound social change to the individual support we provide an adult learning to read.

By empowering young people to reach their full potential, improving individual and community well-being and giving back and inspiring action in our communities, the Y ensures that everyone has the opportunity to become healthier, more confident, connected and secure.
