Looking back, we realize something important.
Many families didn’t have a lot of money.
But somehow…
We never felt poor.
Our neighborhoods were full of life.
Kids played baseball in the street.
Bikes were left on front lawns.
Neighbors talked to each other across fences.
Doors were often unlocked.
Parents didn’t worry every minute.
Because everyone looked out for each other.
If a kid fell off their bike, someone’s mom helped them up.
If someone needed help, neighbors showed up.
And the real wealth of that time wasn’t money.
It was trust.
It was safety.
It was the feeling that you belonged somewhere.
Families gathered in living rooms.
Grandparents told stories.
Birthdays were celebrated with homemade cakes.
Those moments made life rich.
Not bank accounts.
And that is why many people from that generation still say the same thing today.
We didn’t have much.
But we had everything that mattered.
