February Athlete of the Month: Kayla Zimpfer!
We’re kicking off February by celebrating Kayla Zimpfer as our Athlete of the Month! Kayla’s dedication, consistency, and positive energy make her an incredible part of the AFC community. Whether she’s pushing through tough workouts or encouraging those around her, she embodies what it means to show up and put in the work.
Check out her Q&A below to learn more about her journey, favorite workouts, and what keeps her coming back! ⬇️
1. What first brought you to Always Forward CrossFit, and how has your CrossFit journey evolved since then?
Dustin and I moved to Granville 9 months before the pandemic and during that time we became pregnant, which meant by the time I joined in September 2020 I knew all of 3 people in Granville. Dustin was already a member and really loved it, so I joined primarily because of his experience in getting back in shape and to socialize. Those are still the main two reasons I come each week.
2. What’s your favorite CrossFit movement or workout, and what has been the most challenging for you?
My favorite movements are cleans and the SkiErg. The most challenging are the following: burpees, deadlifts, bench press, push-ups, overhead squats, push press, back squats, thrusters, rowing, running, box jumps, split jerks, and not talking during class.
3. How has CrossFit impacted your life outside of the gym—physically, mentally, or socially?
Even though I’m typically the last to finish and throw little weight, this is probably the strongest I’ve ever felt in my life. We are a very active family so I love that CrossFit provides the foundation for all things outdoors. I do slightly regret, however, introducing Diane to pickleball… she’s a beast at all things, but especially pickleball.
4. What do you enjoy most about being a part of the AFC community?
The people! AFC is such a wonderful community and everyone is so welcoming and non-judgmental. We are forever indebted to Craig and Diane for all they’ve done for the expansion of Dustin’s office (which has since become quid pro quo).
5. What advice would you give to someone new to CrossFit or considering starting?
CrossFit seems incredibly intimidating, but AFC is one of the most welcoming and positive cultures I’ve ever been a part of. Come, you won’t regret it.
