Experience for yourself the benefits of a daily combination of these time-tested Yoga techniques and get back your positive health. Health is in your hands and in the hands of Mother Nature. It is not in the hands of the doctors and the big Pharmaceutical companies who only address symptoms.

Health is your birthright. It is natural to be healthy. There are three levels to positive health: body, mind, spirit. Learn how these levels of our being interact with each other and influence each other. Health and healing is not just dealing with symptoms.

Swami Sivananda
(1887-1963)
Swami Sivananda is one of greatest sages of modern India. After a successful career as a doctor he renounced the world, practiced intense meditation and attained self-realization. As a prodigious author he published more than 300 books and pamphlets, thus spreading all aspects of Yoga and philosophy in simple yet profound words. In his ashram, the Divine Life Society in Rishikesh, Himalayas he trained many outstanding disciples. In 1957 he sent one such disciple, Swami Vishnudevananda, to teach Yoga in the West.

The practice of concentration is the preliminary practice for meditation
Concentration is holding one thought in the mind for a period of time.

Concentration brings power to the mind and makes the mind one-pointed, thus allowing peace and happiness to shine through.

Concentration implies effort and perseverance to bring the mind back to focus.

Concentration on an external object – like a candle flame (tratak) is easier then focusing internally on an abstract idea.

True Health
In Yoga we say that we have three bodies: the physical body, the astral body, and the causal body. We need to take care of all three bodies in order to say we have true health. These 3 bodies are the vehicles of the soul.

As in an orange, we have the outer envelope, the peel, then the inside pulp, then the core, or seed. The physical body is like the outer envelope, the astral body is like the pulp, and the causal body is like the seed.

The Atman or Self is beyond the three bodies and is said to be the master of the three bodies and independent from them.

There are three levels of health, corresponding to the three bodies: physical health, mental health and spiritual health.

Yoga is taking care of body/mind/spirit, not seeking after fitness or beauty, or health.
Yoga is finding the cause of our suffering and showing the way to get out of it – to be free from it.
Yoga is a system of education for the body, the mind, the intellect, and the inner spirit.
Yoga is a way of life.
Yoga is universal, not sectarian or separate.
Yoga helps us to go to the root of our suffering, spiritual ignorance (not knowing who we really are).
Yoga brings individual peace of mind and collective peace.
Yoga is unity in diversity.
Yoga is self discipline.
Yoga is life.
Yoga is simple life.
Yoga is moderate life.
Yoga helps us to deal with stress.
Yoga helps calm emotions.
Yoga is a balanced mind, strong and steady.
