We will be crafting Beltane Flower Crowns just in time to celebrate May Day!πΈπ»π·πͺ»πΊππΌπΈππ·π·ππ₯πΉπΊπͺ·πͺ»π₯πΈMay Day happens to be one of my favorite days of the year! Our cat Flora Maye, Maye Maye as we call her is named for this day and I found and incredible old framed picture of an ancient May Day celebration at the local thrift store.
This would be a wonderful opportunity to celebrate a parent child moment by bringing an age appropriate (whatever that means to you) child with you to experience the joy of being in circle.
We will pull a card and share our thoughts, then make our crowns. At the close of our evening we will have an opportunity to dance together and celebrate. There will not be a meditation for this circle, although we will have a moment to breathe and recenter.

Beltane, also known as May Day, is a Celtic festival celebrated on May 1st, marking the beginning of summer and celebrating fertility and the renewal of life. It's one of the eight seasonal festivals within the Celtic Wheel of the Year. Historically, Beltane was observed in Ireland, Scotland, and the Isle of Man, with rituals like lighting bonfires, passing cattle through the flames, and decorating homes with flowers.
Here's a more detailed look at Beltane/May Day:
Meaning and Significance:
Celtic Origins:
The term "Beltane" is Celtic, meaning "the fires of Bel," potentially referring to the sun god Belenus.
Beginning of Summer:
Beltane marks the transition from spring to summer, signifying a time of abundance and fertility.
Fertility and Renewal:
Rituals like bonfires and passing cattle through the flames were intended to purify and ensure the fertility of the land and livestock.
Honoring Nature:
Beltane celebrations involve connecting with nature, often through activities like gathering flowers, decorating homes with greenery, and dancing around Maypoles.
Common Traditions:
Bonfires:
Lighting bonfires is a central tradition, symbolizing purification and the power of the sun.
Maypoles:
Decorating and dancing around Maypoles is a common practice, representing the union of earth and sky and the vibrant energy of spring.
Flower Decorations:
Homes and altars are often decorated with spring flowers, especially hawthorn, which is considered a symbol of fertility.
Crowning a May Queen:
In some traditions, a May Queen is crowned, often with a male companion, representing the fertility and joy of the season.
"Bringing in the May":
Gathering wildflowers and green branches is a way of celebrating the arrival of spring and its abundance.
