Smoothie season is here! I’ve often thought it’s better to skip the banana due to its high sugar content, but I was surprised to learn that an enzyme in banana reduces the absorption of the beneficial flavanol in berries! Instead, “boost your flavanol intake with a smoothie, you should combine flavanol-rich fruits like berries with foods that have a low polyphenol oxidase activity like pineapple, oranges, mango, or yogurt.” Mango is my favorite, I blend it with lemon, cucumber, spinach and coconut water.
