Our beliefs about aging can determine *how* we age… are we fighting aging, or entering it with grace?
A 2026 study found that older adults with positive beliefs about aging actually improved in cognitive function and walking speed over time. Not slower decline. Actual improvement.
The researchers noted that the brain is deeply susceptible to the stories we tell about ourselves. When you believe you're fading, your biology listens.
But when you believe you're still becoming? Something remarkable happens.
I've watched 70-year-olds learn to paint. 65-year-olds start businesses. 80-year-olds become the emotional anchors of their entire families. They aren't fighting aging. They're expanding into it.
Society tells us aging means shrinking. Fewer responsibilities. Smaller circles. Quieter voices. But the science says the opposite is possible.
Your brain can grow new connections at any age. Your muscles respond to training at any age. Your capacity for wisdom, compassion, and purpose only deepens with time.
You're not the person you were at 30. Thank goodness. You're someone far more interesting.
The caterpillar doesn't disappear. It becomes.
What's something you're better at now than you were 10 years ago?
