Enjoyed setting up a booth at the Health Fair in Grayson this weekend followed by our Sexual assault Awareness (Spring meetup) tonight. If you didn’t make it, we missed you….if you did make it thank you for your dedication and advocacy in fighting Stigma! We hope you enjoyed the event. Special thanks to Pathways Porchlight Sexual Assault resource center for sharing their resources and film with us tonight! Also special thanks to our member who shared her personal story with us after the film. Always powerful to hear the stories! Thanks to the Grayson Gallery for hosting us! ❤️

In case you didn’t see the notice in the event last night… Keith Erwin, the event organizer, had a family emergency and can’t make it tonight for the open mic so we had to cancel the event. Hopefully it will be rescheduled at a later date in 2025. Thanks to all who were planning to attend and we hope to see you soon. Happy holidays to all!

Have your heard of “The Pollyanna Problem”?
While finding the positives in general are crucial for mental health, there can be an extreme approach (self talk or toward others) that can do the opposite of wellness, and leave others or yourself feeling that those harder emotions are “wrong”.
Check out the phrases in the lil box! We all may be guilty of throwing one or two of these around at some point in efforts to help someone else or even ourselves. These phrases tend to shut us down or leave us feeling that we are weak bc we can’t just “look on the bright side”. There is a way to acknowledge a tough emotion as “ok” and normal, and still be able to find positives and solutions around it.

This is a great article that brings up our awareness around this. Good things to say instead that validate are “ I know this is hard. What do you think your options are? “ “ I can see why this would be so upsetting. I want to support you. How can I be most helpful to you right now?” Or “it makes sense that you’d be mad/sad about this. What are you telling yourself about it right now?”
