Get to know our practitioners! Meg Agnew answered a few questions and in her words, here she is!
With over 30 years of experience in the healing arts and a background in movement-theater, I have a deep and kinesthetic understanding of the body and believe that when given the right “conditions”, the body knows how to heal itself. I am a licensed massage therapist and specialize in the Trager Approach and CranioSacral Therapy. The Trager Approach is a hands-on passive movement therapy that uses rocking, stretching, compression and delightful passive range of motion to deepen sensory awareness and encourage deep relaxation, offering profound relief of discomfort due injury, illness or stress. Throughout my career I continue to learn and grow as a bodyworker and have studied many touch modalities over the years including shiatsu, Ayurvedic bodywork, reflexology, pregnancy massage, polarity therapy, medical massage and movement therapy in the Anna Halprin Tradition.
Each session is unique and focuses on my clients’ individual needs in the moment. Both the Trager Approach and CranioSacral Therapy primarily effect the nervous system. Through gentle, wave-like movements, rocking, elongation and compression, Trager reconnects the body and mind, offering an experience of freedom, flexibility and ease. When these deep yet gentle movements are implemented, the client’s brain (nervous system) sends the message to the musculature to let go and consciously allows the movement to take place, interrupting tension patterns and offering options for more freedom and greater health. CranioSacral Therapy, although more subtle, removes restrictions in the actual tissues that surround and encase the central nervous system, creating the ideal conditions for restoring health to the entire body.
As a dancer and movement theater artist, my connection with my own body was an essential component of performance. I began a successful massage practice in 1986 in NYC as a way to support myself while establishing an experimental movement/theater company. Soon after moving to the Berkshires in 1992, I found the Trager Approach and knew I had discovered a life-long passion for a this modality as well as this area of the country.
