In Egypt, tomb paintings dating back to 2500 BCE depict therapeutic touch and early forms of reflexology

In Greece, physicians like Hippocrates prescribed massage for injury recovery and joint health

Across the African continent, hands-on healing has long been woven into community-based care often integrating treatments with spiritual and ancestral practices

Throughout Latin cultures, traditional Sobadores and Curanderos have practiced therapeutic bodywork to treat pain, support digestion, and restore balance within the body and spirit. Incorporating prayers and cleanses into their work

Indigenous healing traditions across the Americas have long honored touch as medicine understanding the body as interconnected with the land and spirit

Today, Massage Therapy exists alongside modern medical advancements. Not in opposition to them, but as a complementary form of care

If you are pregnant, join us for a free, 1-day childbirth education class and bring your support person. We recommend this class prior to week 36 of pregnancy.

We’ll cover the labor process and pain control techniques, caring for your newborn, breastfeeding, postpartum care and expectations, what to expect during your hospital stay and a tour of the labor and delivery area of the hospital.

This free class will be 8 a.m.-5 p.m. with a lunch break from noon-1 p.m. The next class is Saturday, March 7. To register, call 620-791-6811.

Massage Therapy Foundation is excited to announce the award of a $300,000 Research Grant to the University of Denver (UD) for their three-year study, “Prenatal Massage: A Complementary Approach for Maternal Health and Mental Health.”

The study will be conducted through a partnership between UD and Thriving Families, a Denver-based nonprofit organization serving perinatal women and birthing people from under-resourced and minority backgrounds. The project will evaluate the impact of incorporating prenatal massage into MotherWise, a Thriving Families Program, an evidence based, trauma informed, and culturally responsive maternal wellness program.

Funds for this groundbreaking research project were provided by American Massage Therapy Association - AMTA with the support of Massage Envy. The study is part of AMTA’s broader commitment of $2.5 million over the next five years to support innovative massage therapy research.

💡Did you know that 1 in 5 pregnant individuals experience mental health issues and pre-term birth rates are rising among low-income families?

That’s why AMTA, with the support of Massage Envy, is funding a groundbreaking $300,000 research study through the Massage Therapy Foundation to explore the potential benefits of massage therapy for maternal health.

This research will focus on individuals from low income and marginalized communities, where pregnancy related stress and mental health challenges are often more pronounced and access to supportive services can be limited.

This three-year study through the University of Denver, in partnership with the Denver based nonprofit Thriving Families, is an important step towards more accessible, evidence-based interventions for all pregnant individuals.
