At 18, I was diagnosed with Pseudotumor Cerebri.

My brain was creating pressure as if there was a tumor โ€” threatening my eyesight. Permanently.

Plus chronic conditions I'd carried since infancy that no specialist ever bothered to trace back to a cause.

Their solution? Manage it. Medicate it. Live with it.

And to be fair โ€” Western medicine is extraordinary at saving lives. Acute care. Emergency trauma.

But chronic disease? True prevention? Finding the why? That's where the system goes silent. That's where you get a prescription and a follow-up in six months.

I see it constantly: patients with conditions like microscopic colitis beating themselves up for eating "imperfect" food when life gets hard.

One of my patients felt shame for getting fast food on a chaotic day. That shame and stress activate the same gut-disrupting pathways we're trying to calm.
