π Our hearts are broken.
We had to say goodbye to our Mitty Kitty β our tiny, brave fighter who never gave up, even when her body failed her in every possible way.
She was a little warrior. So small, full of love, yet she battled so much: relentless ear infections that stole her balance and made her world spin, vestibular disease, eventual blindness, painful days where she couldnβt even stand, and finally the devastating diagnosis of severe juvenile Polycystic Kidney Disease. Her kidneys were massively cystic and enlarged. This is hereditary and should be tested for in any breeding stock. She fought with everything she had β purring through the hardest days, eating and drinking even when it hurt, melting into our arms when the dizziness became too much.
We had to syringe-feed her, she was on strong antibiotics and antinausea medicine, I researched for days trying to find an answer, driving to vets, dealing with an incompetent vet, praying for a miracle⦠and she kept fighting right beside us.
We loved her and losing her feels like losing a piece of our souls.
Her short life has left us with a message: Responsible breeding matters. PKD is genetic and preventable with proper screening. Please β if you breed or buy kittens, demand ultrasound and genetic testing. No other family should have to watch their baby suffer like this.
Our sweet girl deserved so much better. She deserved a healthy body to match her enormous spirit and gentle soul. She was only 8 months old!
Run free now, little one. No more pain, no more spinning world, no more struggle. You will live forever in our hearts. We will miss you every single day. ποΈ
