Did you know that Colorado does not currently require licensure to practice music therapy?
Last week, music therapists from across the state gathered at the Colorado State Capitol to advocate for licensure. This step would help protect clients, uphold professional standards, and ensure that those providing music therapy have the education, clinical training, and board certification required for this specialized work.
As a music therapist, I see firsthand how powerful music can be in supporting mental health, recovery, and connection. Licensure would help ensure that the people providing these services are properly trained to do so safely and effectively.
Grateful to stand alongside so many passionate professionals working to strengthen this field in Colorado. 🎶
On February 24th, Music Therapists across Colorado came together to advocate for Music Therapy State Licensure. Here we have [from left to right] state Senator Anthony Hartsook (he/him), Colorado Music Therapy Organizer Amy W (she/her), and one of our amazing therapists, Victor Gall (he/they). Every representative got an egg shaker on their desk, as well as a fact sheet about music therapy licensing. We are so proud of you, Victor, and every therapist that went out to advocate!
