Change of pace. Evolve. Grow. Appreciate.

It’s been 12 years since I was an avid runner. Running 3-4 miles most days. After an injury in July 2012 I was unable to run more than a mile without shooting pain in my knee for three years. Coincidentally, my yoga journey started in 2013. I was never able to get back into running. That is, until two months ago 🙌🏼

I’m back to running 1-3 times per week! Typically once I reach two miles I start my cool down. Last night I kept going for another half a mile (thank you, Britney Spears 🔥)

Half way through my run I had this emotional release and thought “wow, isn’t this the life?!”

The energy flowing through my veins, the music in my ears, the clarity in my mind, the fact that I have an able body to do this, Robin organizing the back basement shelves and the pure feeling of joy and excitement in my chest✨

For years I have been wanting to run again. I’ve been wanting to enjoy running again. And I am finally feeling the joy 💛 What’s better this time around is the knowledge I’ve gained along the way. I know how to fuel my body better and know how to recover!

If you have been wanting to bring a healthy habit, hobby or activity back into your life—do it 👏🏼

What music did you listen to during that time? What were you eating? What were you consuming (tv, social, reading, etc)? How were you spending your time? Who were you spending time with? Tell me what you’re bringing back!

Since I couldn’t find a single picture of me running, here is a pic after teaching my first yoga class to my yoga sisters in 200 YTT in one of my favorite places. My run from last night felt similar to this moment✨

It’s too cold for this week, so here’s my dancer pose from Blizzard Bennett on Friday. I should have chosen a warrior pose because I kept getting blown away! So challenging, but I was determined 😂❄️

Hoping everyone is staying safe and warm!

First snowga of the year ❄️

When reflecting on the past year, I wasn’t surprised that to find that 2022 was more joyful than 2023. This past year was amazing in so many ways. Many life lessons learned and memories made. I am just simply not finding joy in my everyday life like I was two years ago and I’m more stressed now than I was a year ago. I’m not taking care of me. I fell into old habits. And for months I have been saying I need to make changes.

My word for this year is ✨create✨

Create change.
Create memories.
Create art.
Create joy.

I have been reminded several times over the last month to not take our time on this earth for granted. To find the ✨joy✨ now, don’t postpone it.

Already I’ve been to more yoga classes in the three weeks than I’ve gone to in the last three months. I started running again and I’m back to strength training.✨joy✨

Focusing on sleep, fueling my body with whole foods (while still indulging in dark chocolate) and staying hydrated has been huge. ✨joy✨

Spending quality time with my girls, Robin and our extended families has been healing and filling my soul the last few weeks. ✨joy✨

The year has just begun and I’m excited for what’s ahead. Namaste 🙏🏼✨

Happy International Yoga Day and Happy Summer Solstice! ☀️

I celebrated the first day of summer with my yoga-sister .grace on my mat, on the boardwalk at my home base ✨

McKynlee and I had a lot to catch up on…two hours later Sandi joined us after her restorative class 😄

Everyday I’m grateful for the connections I’ve made through yoga—especially my yoga sisters 🫶🏼

Don’t be afraid to mess up, and don’t expect success overnight.

Get lost, get so damn lost and find yourself over and over again.

Believe in yourself, forget about what other people think, and trust your journey.

I found this while reading my old journal from Sept 2021—I wrote this down as I signed up for yoga teacher training. It was exactly what I needed in that moment and it still resonates now✨

I’ve been a little quiet on here and it’s a good thing✨

Last week we had 80 degree weather and I spent time outside every evening. The last two days have been frigid again, so I’m dreaming of this day in Aruba last month at Dos Playa at Arikok National Park 🌞

This fish pose variation was so freeing✨ The water was clear, the air was warm and the sound of the waves crashing on this rock was both peaceful and sent of surge of energy through my body🌊

About 20 mins before this picture I faced one of my biggest fears…(that’s for another post). I was shook and my body felt numb. But when I jumped onto this rock
🌊 I felt so alive 🌊

Tonight I made it to a class that I didn’t have to teach—it’s been a while. guided us to our edge with a fiery sequence 💪🏼

He brought in airplane and warrior 3 tonight and I was certainly at my edge by this point. I was wobbly, my balance and strength were being challenged. And this moment, in the picture above, flashed in my mind. Doing warrior three at the Willis Tower at 1,353 feet high had me shook. I almost couldn’t do it. It was my edge 🔥

Baron Baptiste says our edge is where we come up against ourselves and what we can do and be. The boundary between where we are and where we grow. The place of comfortable discomfort. It’s that point when you’re still within your capacities, but are challenging yourself to go just a little bit farther. I read this in “Journey into Power” leading up to my 200 YTT journey and it’s something I come back to weekly. And ever since I read this, I’ve tried to soar over my edge on and off the mat. It’s where we grow. It’s where we breakthrough✨

Find your edge this week—and dare to leap and breakthrough✨

When your husband wants to keep snorkeling and you’re ready to relax on the beach—but you also have a hard time relaxing—yoga it is ☀️

Arashi Beach was the most peaceful and beautiful beach. Highly recommend for snorkeling 🐠

I haven’t posted my schedule in a while, so here’s where to find me this week:
✨Vinyasa Power Tuesday 3/28 at 5:30pm at Lifestyle Power Yoga
✨Lunchtime Fire Wednesday 3/29 at 12:00pm at Morning Sun Yoga
✨Evening Fire Thursday 3/30 5:30pm at Morning Sun Yoga

It’s a week of transition, new beginnings and rebirth with the spring equinox on Monday and the new moon yesterday✨

I’m still processing what that means for me—truthfully I haven’t been able to sit down to think about it 🙃

It has been a *very* busy season for me and my family for the last six months. It’s one thing after another—when the schedule looks like it’ll slow down, it doesn’t. We find ways to fill it, events come up or someone gets sick. On top of the everyday flow, I also accepted a new role last month and am back to working 40 hours a week. I already felt like I didn’t have the time for my family and friends, or myself.

As hard as it has been to make this decision, I have decided to reduce my teaching schedule from 4 classes a week to 2. My last Wednesday lunchtime fire class at Morning Sun Yoga will be next week 3/29. I’m super bummed, but it will also work out well to prepare for summer and yogis opting for the outdoors on their lunch ☀️I’m also hoping this will give me more time to go to classes and meditate more often 💛

An intention I set with the last new moon was to reconnect with the people I love and care about and also build new friendships and connections within the yoga space✨

Over the last month I have had to remind myself that progress and growth can look backwards sometimes. Reducing my teaching schedule was a really difficult decision to make. But I know opening up my schedule right now is necessary 🙌🏼 Bye-Bye Busy ✌🏼
