Happy National Mom and Pop Business Owners Day! 🎉💪

Elbow Grease started as a simple idea—help people feel better, move better, and live with less pain. What we didn’t realize was just how much this business would shape our lives. It’s been late nights, early mornings, and plenty of problem-solving in between. We’ve worn every hat—therapists, receptionists, janitors, bookkeepers—but through it all, we’ve built something we’re proud of.

Running a small business isn’t easy, but it’s worth it. Because every time a client walks out feeling better than when they came in, we’re reminded why we do this.

So today, we’re raising a cup of coffee (or maybe an ice pack) to all the other small business owners out there putting in the work. And to our clients—thank you for choosing us. Your support means everything.

Ever been told to just deal with your pain? That it’s “normal” to feel stiff, sore, or exhausted all the time? Maybe someone even told you to be more “realistic” about what your body is capable of.

Yeah… I don’t buy that. And you shouldn’t either.

Your body is designed to heal—it just needs the right support. Whether it’s massage, acupuncture, movement, or a mix of things, there’s always a way forward. You don’t need to settle for discomfort just because someone else has.

🔹 “I have not failed. I’ve just found 10,000 ways that won’t work.” – Thomas Edison

Healing isn’t always a straight line, but it is possible. You deserve people who support you, who remind you that feeling better is within reach—even if you haven’t figured it out yet.

💥 It’s time to stop thinking small about your health.
🚀 It’s time to seek out those who are thriving, not just surviving.
👀 It’s time to take that step toward feeling good again.

Your health is worth it. You’re worth it.

Has anyone ever doubted your ability to heal? Drop a comment below—I’d love to hear your story. 👇

Ever look at someone else’s progress and think, Why am I not there yet?

Maybe it’s a friend who swears by their workout routine, someone who “fixed” their back pain in two visits, or a social media post about the perfect morning routine (that somehow includes an hour of yoga, a green smoothie, and total enlightenment before 6 AM).

Meanwhile, you’re over here just trying to get through the day without your body reminding you it has opinions.

I get it. When you’re working hard to feel better—recovering from an injury, managing chronic pain, or just trying to get back to yourself—it’s frustrating when progress feels slow.

And if you’re like me, that’s when comparison sneaks in.

But here’s the thing: someone else’s progress has nothing to do with yours. Their journey isn’t your journey. Their timeline isn’t your timeline.

So when that feeling creeps in, here’s what I do:

1️⃣ Reality check. Someone else’s healing doesn’t mean I’m failing. The body moves at its own pace, and real progress isn’t a straight line.

2️⃣ Focus on what I can do today. If I have time to spiral about what’s not happening fast enough, I have time to do one thing to support my body. Breathe. Stretch. Hydrate. Keep moving forward.

3️⃣ Use it as inspiration, not a measuring stick. Seeing someone else improve means it’s possible. That’s fuel, not proof that I’m behind.

4️⃣ Acknowledge my own progress. Maybe I’m not where I want to be yet, but I’m not where I started. That matters. That counts.

And if it still feels slow? That’s okay. Forward is forward.

What helps you stay focused on your journey?

Spring is here—don’t throw your back out celebrating!

That first warm breeze? That little bit of sunshine? That itch to clean out every corner of your house? Yep, it’s officially spring. And while we love a good refresh, we’ve seen way too many people limp into the studio after an overenthusiastic weekend of lifting, scrubbing, and hauling.

Spring cleaning is a workout. You’re twisting, reaching, and carrying things in ways your body probably hasn’t in a while. So before you go full tornado on your house and yard, here’s a reminder:

👉 Pace yourself. You don’t have to do it all today.
👉 Lift smarter. Your legs are stronger than your back—use them.
👉 Take breaks. Hydrate. Stretch. Be kind to your body.

And if you overdo it? You know where to find us. We’re here to keep you moving—whether that means loosening up tight shoulders, working out that stubborn low back ache, or just giving you an hour to unwind after all that effort.

🍀 Luck, Tension, and That One Spot You Didn’t Know Needed Work 🍀

You ever have one of those moments where you realize how lucky you are? Maybe it’s finding a $20 in an old jacket, maybe it’s hitting every green light on the way home, or maybe—it’s landing on the massage table right when you needed it most.

Luck isn’t always about chance. Sometimes, it’s about making the right moves for yourself—like taking a deep breath, booking that appointment, and finally getting that nagging shoulder (you know the one) to relax.

This St. Patrick’s Day, we’re feeling lucky to do what we do: helping people move better, feel better, and get back to doing what they love. And if you’ve been waiting for a sign to take care of yourself… consider this your lucky clover. 🍀

Why We Don’t Focus on “Relaxation” Work Anymore – and What We Do Instead

Let’s talk about something that’s been on our minds: the idea that massage should always be about “relaxation.” We used to think we had to lean into that approach, but the truth is—it’s a cop-out.

Here’s why we’ve moved on:

👉 All work is relaxing. Whether it’s deep tissue, orthopedic, or focused rehab, when the body moves better, it feels better. Relaxation is a byproduct of good work, not the goal itself.

👉 It’s not about us—it’s about you. Your goals matter more than a generic “relaxation” label. Whether you need pain relief, better mobility, or post-injury recovery, that’s where our focus belongs.

👉 Results over routine. If a treatment isn’t tailored to what your body actually needs, it’s just fluff. And that’s not what we’re here for.

So, what do we do instead?
We focus on what actually helps. Whether that’s breaking up scar tissue, restoring movement, or getting rid of that nagging pain, your needs drive the session—not a one-size-fits-all “relaxation” experience.

Because true care isn’t about making things easy—it’s about making things better.

I realized I was an expert in massage therapy when…

Actually, I didn’t. At least, not at first.

I never set out to be an “expert” in bodywork—just someone who could actually help people feel better. I figured if I kept learning, kept asking questions, and kept paying attention, I’d get pretty good at it.

Turns out, that’s exactly what happened. But it wasn’t until clients started coming to me because of my knowledge—trusting me to help when nothing else worked—that I realized, Oh… I guess I know my stuff.

The first time it really hit? A client looked at me after a session and said, “I wish I’d found you sooner.”

If you’ve got questions about pain, movement, or just feeling better in your body, I’m here.

🌟 Happy Employee Appreciation Day! 🌟

Today, we want to give a HUGE shoutout to Gail, the incredible backbone of Elbow Grease. For the past three years, she has been our lifeline, keeping us connected as a VA Community Care Provider.

She takes on the mountain of paperwork, navigates the maze of phone calls, and makes sure our Veterans get the care they deserve—and she does it all with unmatched dedication and heart.

Gail, we don’t say it enough—but we’d be lost without you. Your passion for supporting both Elbow Grease and the Veterans we’re privileged to care for is something truly special, and we are beyond grateful to have you on our team.

Thank you for everything you do! 💙👏

🌱 Springtime Joint Pain & the Movement We Avoid (But Need Most!)

When the seasons shift, so does our body. If your joints feel stiff or achy as the weather warms up, you’re not alone! Changes in temperature, humidity, and barometric pressure affect the tissues around our joints, making movement feel less appealing—right when we need it most.

💨 Why Do Joints Ache in the Spring?
• Fluctuating temperatures cause tissues to expand and contract, leading to stiffness.
• Increased humidity can affect joint lubrication, making movement feel sluggish.
• Sudden pressure changes (thanks, spring storms!) can trigger discomfort in sensitive joints.

🚶‍♂️ Why Do We Avoid Movement When We Need It Most?
When joints feel stiff or sore, it’s natural to want to rest and protect them. But gentle movement is actually one of the best ways to increase circulation, lubricate joints, and reduce stiffness.

🌀 What Helps?
• Slow, controlled movement (walking, stretching, Qi Gong, yoga)
• Hydration to support joint lubrication
• Gentle massage or self-mobilization to ease tension
• Consistent movement throughout the day (even small amounts help!)

When your body feels heavy and stiff, movement can feel like the last thing you want to do—but it’s exactly what helps the most. Next time you feel that sluggish springtime stiffness, try a slow stretch, a short walk, or some deep breaths with gentle movement and see how your body responds.

💡 A Big Step for Massage in Green Bay 💡

We take a lot of pride in the work we do at Elbow Grease Massage Studio—helping people move better, feel better, and get back to the things they love. But not every business calling itself a "massage studio" has the same goals.

This article highlights the first year of enforcement for Green Bay’s new ordinance aimed at keeping our industry professional and ethical. As a clinic that specializes in orthopedic rehab and chronic pain, we fully support efforts to ensure massage therapy remains a trusted and respected healthcare service.

If you've ever wondered how to tell the difference between a professional clinic and one that isn’t operating ethically, we’re always happy to answer questions. Quality care matters, and you deserve to feel safe and confident in your choice of therapist.

As Green Bay's massage establishment ordinance enters year two, city officials and local businesses look for more enforcement, City officials say possible additions to the ordinance could be made.
