The Wisconsin assembly passed a bill that would overhaul reading assessments for grade school students. It would require new assessments for students to ultimately reduce the achievement gap. This was backed by the majority of republicans and a handful of democrats. It would also help bring up reading scores.

Former justice subpoenas state mayors for election records:

Former justice Gableman sent subpoenas to 5 mayors of the largest cities in the state. This was with approval from Speaker Robin Vos. It was then announced that the subpoenas would be dropped if clerks turned over their records from recent elections.

Evers and Redistricting battle

Governor Tony Evers is trying to intervene in the federal redistricting case. He, with Attorney General Josh Kaul filed a motion to argue that the governor should be allowed to intervene in related litigation surrounding the drawing of state political maps. He argues that the court should consult his ‘People’s Maps Commission’ plan.

Wisconsin Republicans reintroduce ‘born alive’ bill

Governor Evers vetoed this same bill the last legislative session. This bill would hold healthcare providers accountable if they don’t provide care to babies that are born alive after an attempted abortion. Under this bill those providers could face felony charges for homicide. It was passed last session by the GOP legislature.

More tension between the legislature and UW System

State Senator Steve Nass calls out his colleagues, vowing to ask GOP legislative leaders to sue the UW system over their Covid policies. The UW system refused to release their guidelines to the legislature despite a legislative committee demanding that they do so. This is important to conservatives because we have a right to know where our taxpayer dollars are going and we need transparency.

Health workers rights regarding the vaccine:

Several hospitals and other health systems across the state are starting to institute vaccine mandates for healthcare workers. There have been protests across the state to stand up for the rights of our healthcare workers. Wisconsin senate president Chris Kapenga urges healthcare workers to stand up against these mandates. This is important to conservatives because we believe individuals should have their own liberty to choose a vaccine or not. Their livelihood should not depend on it.

Governor Evers recently vetoed a series of recent bills passed by Assembly GOP that would have imposed new restrictions on absentee ballots in the state of Wisconsin. Wisconsin republicans don’t have enough votes in their caucus to override the veto. All of the vetoed bills contained common sense election integrity reforms. One of the bills would have required the elderly and others who are ‘indefinitely confined’ to show voter ID.
