How Periodontal Disease Affects Oral Health and Overall Health
Periodontal disease is the leading cause of tooth loss in adults. Still, the damage is not limited to the mouth: gum disease is associated with an increased risk of serious degenerative diseases. When oral bacteria leak into the bloodstream, it can increase inflammation throughout the body.
Patients with advanced periodontitis are associated with a higher risk for diabetes, chronic respiratory disease, cardiac problems, and other severe conditions.

Did You Know Pumpkin is Good for Your Teeth?
Pumpkin season is here, which means it’s time to celebrate it! Real pumpkin is packed with vitamins and minerals that are great for your gums. Pumpkins contain zinc, which your body uses to help repair damaged tissues. It also has vitamin A, which helps produce saliva that rinses away sugar and bacteria, and vitamin C, which strengthens your immune system to fight off gum disease.
Remember that added sugar is not good for your teeth, so be mindful of your pumpkin treat.

Did you know that apples are nature's toothbrush? Apples can gently remove plaque from your teeth by simply eating them. The fruit also stimulates an alkaline saliva flow, which neutralizes the acid produced by plaque after eating carbohydrate-rich foods.
Other oral health benefits of eating apples include:
• They increase saliva production.
• Apples contain vitamin C to help protect the gums from inflammation, infection, and bleeding.
• Apples contain potassium to strengthen teeth and bones.

Here are some healthy snacks that are good for your teeth:
• Crunchy vegetables: The fiber in these vegetables helps to scrub away plaque, while the water content helps to keep your mouth moist.
• Cheese: Is another great tooth-friendly snack. It's high in calcium, which helps to strengthen teeth and prevent cavities.
• Nuts and seeds: Nuts and seeds are a good source of protein and healthy fats, which can help your child feel full until their next meal.
• Fruits: Fruits like apples, oranges, and berries are high in fiber and vitamin C, which are good for your teeth.
• Water: Water is essential for good oral health. It helps to keep your mouth moist and washes away food particles and bacteria.

September is National Gum Health Month, and YOUR GUMS ARE ESSENTIAL!
When we think of the dentist, we picture someone making sure our teeth are healthy and clean. But did you know that your gums are just as crucial as your teeth? Your gums protect the sensitive roots of your teeth from being exposed. If you don’t care for your teeth and gums properly, you could be prone to gum disease, resulting in additional oral and health issues.
