The Wisconsin Department of Health Services believes measles is now spreading locally after confirming more cases last week. There are 12 confirmed and 2 probable cases in neighboring Oconto County right now.

The measles virus spreads very easily, so please review the common symptoms and STAY HOME if you start to experience them. Call your doctor's office or health clinic BEFORE you visit so staff can take precautions for themselves and other patients.

📵It constantly steals your attention - pulling you out of the here and now.📵

📞Your phone is a tremendous piece of technology, but it's also tremendously good at being your all-in-one distraction device. The good news is that YOU can control when, where, and how you use it. Set some boundaries and you'll find yourself with more time and a clearer mind.✨🧠

👩‍🍼STILL TIME TO SHARE!🍼

Since August is National Breastfeeding Month, we've been inviting families across Brown County to normalize and celebrate breastfeeding by sharing real-life photos and stories.

Breastfeeding doesn't look the same for everyone, and this is exactly why your story matters! Whether you're nursing at home, pumping at work, feeding in public, or supporting a breastfeeding parent, you can help others feel seen, supported, and empowered.

By contributing to Through Their Eyes, you're helping show what breastfeeding looks like in Brown County: the quiet moments, the challenges, the joy, the pride, and everything in between. Stories and pictures can include breastfeeding, pumping, expression, donor milk, supplemental nursing systems (SNS), tube feeding, etc.

Selected photos and stories will be highlighted on our social media pages.

Help us build a culture where breastfeeding is seen, supported, and celebrated. Submit your story and/or photo below. Submissions can be anonymous if you prefer and photos do not have to be professional! https://form.jotform.com/251896147984172

Back in 2021, data indicated the loss equated to 10 school buses.

These numbers are on the rise.

More recent data now indicates we lose the equivalent of 11 school buses full of children to fatal unintentional drownings each year in the U.S. The CDC reports that for every 1 fatal child drowning, another 7-8 are seen in emergency departments for non-fatal drowning.

Water safety education and proactive measures are more vital than ever. Drowning is preventable!

🗣️💬Parents, talk to your kids about the risks of counterfeit pills.

💊They can look like the real thing but may contain deadly amounts of illegally made fentanyl. Tragically, nearly 25% of overdose deaths among adolescents in the U.S. involve counterfeit pills.

What is Brown County Public Health Doing for Breastfeeding Families?

Breastfeeding is more than a personal decision, it is a community-wide investment for lifelong health. At Brown County Public Health, we advocate for breastfeeding by:

✔️Supporting policies that protect nursing mothers
✔️Raising awareness about breastfeeding and its health benefits to both infants and mothers
✔️Partnering with childcare centers, businesses, and community spaces to become breastfeeding-friendly
✔️Making breastfeeding visible, accepted, and supported in public
✔️Sharing local resources, events, and stories
*Promoting access to breastmilk banks

When we advocate for breastfeeding, we're advocating for healthier families, stronger communities, and a better start for every baby.

A shoutout to one of our strategists, Kris, who's been in the Wisconsin Dells this week at the Governor's Conference on Highway Safety. Over two days, nearly 60 people attended her presentations about teen driver safety. Great job, Kris!
