You can sleep 7–9 hours and still wake up like you didn’t actually rest.
And most people assume that means: stress, hormones, or “just life”
But a lot of the time, it’s because your nervous system never fully downshifts.

So even in rest, your body is still partially bracing.
That’s why deep tissue work sometimes doesn’t just release muscles, it changes how you feel after you leave the table.
Because recovery isn’t just sleep. It’s regulation.

Deep tissue work doesnt have to look like elbows digging into one painful spot or extreme soreness. It is methodical puzzle working of the pieces that should fit together but dont seem to be coming together smoothly. Its an awakening for your system.

If your neck and shoulders are constantly tight, your body is likely doing more than it should just to hold you up.
Stress plays a role but so do posture, breathing, and how your body is distributing load.
When that balance is off, your neck pays for it.
I see this pattern all the time.
"Tech neck" is a real issue. Not just our phones but computers and tv screens. Take a moment to check in. Is your head forward like a turtle sticking theirs out? Is there tension in your jaw? Is your spine long and stacked or are you hunching or leaning?

Bodies can be trained into habits like our mind or our beliefs or even our schedules. When we train them to compensate they will.

Are your hips are always tight or does your low back keeps flaring up? it’s usually not just “tightness.”
A lot of the time your body is trying to stabilize something deeper. Its compensating for weakness, imbalance, or the way you’re moving every day.

Feet, ankles, calves and knees are part of a kinetic chain. Are your shoes worn on one side? One side of your jeans drag more on one leg than the other? Maybe one shoulder has less mobility or strength. From top to bottom and bottom to top our bodies wire and fire together. It becomes a snowball effect of one small issue getting bigger and bigger.

That’s why stretching alone doesn’t fix it.
There’s a reason your body keeps going back to this.
I see this stuff all the time and help people not only understand it but get relief.

Your body isn’t random, it’s repeating something it learned. Until that pattern is addressed, it’ll keep showing up no matter how much you stretch or rest.

The one-sided body clue:
If one shoulder, hip, or side of your body always feels tighter, thats not random.
Your body rarely distributes stress evenly. It finds patterns, dominance, protection, compensation and sticks with them.
So over time, you don’t just feel tight.
You feel lopsided in a way you can’t stretch out.
That’s usually not where the issue started… just where it shows up most.

I work with this often. Something I hear multiple times a week from clients is, "that side isnt even the one thats been bothering me but once you start working on it I realize its so much worse." Indeed. Pressure overrides pain so when one side is locked up, the side compensating is most ofen the side that feels more sensative.

It’s coming from patterns your body has adapted to over time—how you move, compensate, and hold tension. If those patterns don’t change, the pain keeps coming back.
That’s the work I focus on.

The term "somatic" is very popular but many arent fully confident they understand it.
Literal meaning is: of the body
Breakdown: awareness of how the body, nervous system and neuropaths move as an intergrated system not just piece by piece. Feeling into mobility and connection.

Did you know pain or discomfort in you shoulder could actually be a problem thats roots from your hip on the opposite leg? Or lower back problems maybe stemming from the calves or feet!

Experts in the field of body work are still learning this map of the body.

People ask me often, as a bodyworker, what they can do at home to help themselves further. Pilates is one of my go to answers because it creates strength while rehabilitating the body. However it can challenging to start and follow up with for folks who are limited in movement.

Feldenkrais, is an ATM (Awareness Through Movement) practice. It is one of the most gentle forms of movement I know of. This is a free website without ads! Donations are appreciated but not required.
