Brierley, Founder of Reset to Balance
If you ask any of my friends and family about me and my decision to become a Wellness Coach, they’d probably say something along the lines of, “Yeah, that sounds like her.”
For the last 17 years, up until about 3 years ago, I was licensed as a Professional Massage Therapist in Washington, Oregon, and Arizona. I am recognized by many as a Healing Practitioner
. Some even called me their Shaman Woman. Because of the gifts I’ve come to recognize and trust, skills I have acquired, and the practices I have incorporated into my life, I’ve learned to be open to what the Universe has to offer to me in terms of ‘doing the work’. Yeah, it all sounds so ‘woo-woo’. So let me get into what led me to become a Wellness Coach. Let The Journey Begin - 3 years ago:
I had a thriving practice in the SW and I was living my dream. Something kept nudging at me though and I got the sense that I needed to ‘wrap things up’ because something was clearly going to change in my near future. I didn’t know what it was but having a really strong faith in the Universe, I decided to take steps to ‘disconnect’ from any solid commitments I had in the SW. I closed my practice and got a couple of jobs working as an an Independent Contractor, as well as working part time in a call center for a retirement resort community. About 4-5 months down the road, I decided it was time to move back home and shared that with friends and family. A month after I made that decision, my mom called and said that her cancer had returned. Now I had my answer. I moved back to Kauai. My mom has since passed. It was a miraculous and beautiful event that my grandchildren, my children, and I will never forget. We all miss her terribly, and when I say it was a miraculous and beautiful event, I’m not referring to her death, I’m referring to how she died and the circumstances surrounding that. That’s another story for another time though which I will save for a later date. The Journey Continues - 3 years later:
I am currently working at a gourmet market as a manager, and although this position served me well while I was caring for my mom, and continues to serve a purpose - providing a source for taking care of my financial responsibilities and then some - it’s not what I am passionate about. So I started thinking, I don’t want to go back to being licensed as a massage therapist because it limits my scope of practice. What can I acquire that will provide a big enough umbrella under which I can apply all that I’ve learned and become, and enable me to use all of those resources so I can share all of that with others? The Universe answered. Researching:
My first instinct was to look into Life Coaching. “What does that mean exactly?” That’s the first question that pops into my head when I hear that. That’s just kind of . . . vague, no disrespect intended. Then I looked at Health Coaching. Well, that didn’t sound quite right to me either because it holds connotations of having to do with one’s health, which most people immediately correlate with physical health . . . too focused on just 1 aspect of one's self even though a Health Coach covers so much more. Then I saw Wellness Coach. That was exactly what I was looking for. Wellness, yes, overall wellness in one’s life. I looked into IAWP and I’ve found my umbrella. It covers everything that I have been practicing, and applying, and living in my life, and, oh so much more. The Journey Continues - In this present moment:
I am very close to graduating and receiving my certificate as a Wellness Coach and cannot begin to tell you how excited I am. I’m also looking into other options (income sources) so I can be more flexible with my time to develop and establish my practice. As it happens, naturally, the Universe is giving me various scenarios to ensure that I am serious about solidifying my foundation as a Wellness Coach which I’m welcoming with open arms because it only strengthens my determination and resolve to persevere. “I am back to ‘doing the work’.”, and, “I am passionate about it.” In this person’s humble honest opinion, I think it’s so my foundation will be rock solid, and believe it or not, I’m enjoying the ride. I LOVE IT! How I Plan on Helping Others:
Through private and group sessions, classes and workshops, homework assignments, and printed materials, as well as various resources, my mission is to help guide and support those who are looking to get balance back into their lives, Reset 2 Balance, so to speak. This will enable them to move forward in the present moment, with positive intent and mindfulness knowing that they are whole and vested in their own well-being. Okay, so that sounds a little too technical and ‘book-ish”. Let’s just say, “You + Balance = AWESOME!”
The Journey Never Ends:
I hope you’ve enjoyed reading this as much as I’ve enjoyed sharing it with you. There is so much to look forward to in this life and I for one am not so interested in arriving at a specific destination as I am about what happens on the journey. I hope you, in your life, are enjoying the journey as well.
