Medicaid cuts don’t just affect some—they affect us all. It means fewer kids get vaccines, fewer parents get mental health care, fewer pregnant women get prenatal visits, and more face medical debt.

The budget reconciliation bill passed in the U.S. Senate earlier today would harm the health of children, families and communities. It includes sweeping cuts and changes to vital programs that children rely on, including Medicaid and the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP). The health system for children relies on Medicaid – from pediatric practices to hospitals – and so cuts of this magnitude would impact the ability of all children to access care. Pediatricians are calling on the U.S. House of Representatives to reject this bill. Spring has sprung! Trees are budding and flowers are emerging and we are on a collision course for spring allergy season. For these kiddos spring brings sneezing, itchy and watery eyes, coughs, and itchy and irritated sore throats and post nasal drip. Seasonal or spring/fall allergies, interchangeable with the terms hay fever or allergic rhinitis are all synonyms for a commonly experienced reaction to the weeds, grasses, pollens and trees in our outdoor environment, with symptoms that include but are not limited to;

Runny nose/nasal congestion
Sneezing
Itchy nose, ears, eyes, mouth
Red watery eyes
Swelling around eyes
Post nasal drip

Minimize Exposure to Pollen:
Check Pollen Counts: Use websites or apps like Pollen.com or weather.com to monitor pollen counts and plan outdoor activities accordingly.
Stay Indoors on High Pollen Days: When pollen counts are high, encourage indoor activities.
Keep Windows Closed: Close windows and use air conditioning in your home and car.
Change Clothes and Shower: After playing outside, have your child shower and change into clean clothes to remove pollen from their skin and hair.
Wash Linens Frequently: Wash bedding and towels frequently in hot water to remove allergens.
Consider Pet Care: Be mindful of pets, as they can carry pollen indoors. Wipe their fur after walks and consider keeping them out of your child's bedroom.

2. Manage Indoor Air Quality:
Use Air Purifiers: Consider using air purifiers with HEPA filters to remove allergens from the air.
Vacuum and Dust Regularly: Vacuum and dust regularly to remove allergens from your home.
Change Air Filters: Regularly change or clean air filters in your HVAC system.

3. Medications:
Consult with a Doctor: Discuss allergy medications with your child's pediatrician or allergist.
Antihistamines: Over-the-counter antihistamines can help relieve symptoms like itching, sneezing, and runny nose.
Nasal Sprays: Nasal sprays, including steroid nasal sprays, can help reduce nasal congestion.
Allergy Eye Drops: Allergy eye drops can help relieve itchy eyes.
Start Medications Early: Consider starting allergy medications before the pollen season begins to prevent symptoms.
