09/08/2025

On September 4, 2025, our family said goodbye to a truly one-of-a-kind man, Calvin Long, lovingly known as “Junior” to those who knew him best. He passed away peacefully in hospice care at the age of 76, with his children by his side. Fittingly, and in a way that feels like more than coincidence, he left us on the same date his beloved wife passed away 11 years earlier - a quiet, poetic ending to a loud, love-filled life.

Born in Cumberland, Kentucky, and a longtime resident of Lawrenceburg, Indiana, Junior was a man built from strong roots and even stronger will. He and his wife, Wanda, raised two beautiful children and built a life grounded in love, grit, laughter, and unwavering commitment to family.

He was stubborn - no doubt about that. But it was the kind of stubborn that came from knowing who he was and standing firm in what he believed. Fearless, strong-willed, and sharp as they come, he had wisdom earned through experience, not textbooks. Whether it was identifying every plant in the woods, giving advice laced with street smarts, or cracking jokes that could lighten any room, Junior had a way of leaving his mark wherever he went.

He was happiest outdoors - fishing, hunting, or just breathing in the quiet peace of nature. He loved a good trip to the casino and never missed a chance to spend time with his grandchildren, who brought out the softest part of his big, generous heart.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Wanda Long; his parents, William and Melinda Brock; and siblings: Clifford Brock, Patsy Abbott, Evelyn Boggs, Geneva Hogg, William Brock, Jimmy Brock, Bessy Widener, Roger Riley, Mary (Bruce) Eldridge.

He is survived by his daughter, Amy Postal, and her spouse, William Postal; his son, Andrew Long, and his spouse, Susan Long; his cherished grandchildren: Hillary (TJ) Ashcraft, Austin Smeeks, Emily (Alycia) Smeeks, Molly Smeeks, Samuel Smeeks, Abigail Wells, Avory (Kate) Hughes, Jorja Long, Michael (Katelyn) Postel; and his great-grandchildren: Lucas Ashcraft, Sawyer Ashcraft, Everleigh Ashcraft. He is also survived by his siblings, Debbie (Barry) Ford, Diane (Greg) Kroth, Rena (Mark) Davis, and Wanda Watts.

To honor his memory in a way that feels right, we’ll be gathering for a Celebration of Life at one of his favorite fishing spots-Gladys Russell Park-on Friday, October 10. Family and friends are welcome to stop by anytime between 12:00 PM and 8:00 PM.

Junior was a survivor, a jokester, a protector, and above all, a man who lived life on his terms. Stubborn, strong, wise, and full of love - he was truly unforgettable. We’ll carry his stories, his laugh, and his spirit with us always.
