I discovered Constellation Work in 2011.

At the time I was a high school teacher in NYC, and what shook me were the implications of the process: what IS information, if we are able to access it like this? And why is it that a system that comes into alignment FEELS so much better?

The practice of Constellation Work demonstrates that information is not material - it does not require bits and bytes of data to be exchanged in material form. We can set up a constellation completely blind or even double blind, where neither the representatives nor the facilitator know what is being set up and represented, and the representatives will still be accurate.

Constellation Work also demonstrates that systems are not random. Systems seem to have an inner drive that, when they are able to tap into this drive, will naturally move them into greater coherence.

If systems were random, a constellation would never work because there would be no way for representatives to distinguish a system that was healthy and coherent from a system that was unhealthy and out of order.

Instead, we experience over and over that our feelings are feedback from the system - they teach us when the system is moving into and out of alignment. This is why constellations work, and why our bodies are such excellent representatives.

Humans are exquisitely designed to sense relationships, and we put this exquisite capacity to fine use in Constellation Work.

I am hosting a FREE INTRODUCTION to Family Constellations THIS FRIDAY May 10 at my studio in Amherst at 5pm ET.

Over the past TEN YEARS (!!!) I have been not-so-secretly developing a body of work I call Sensethinking.

It is for parents and educators and lifelong learners who want to understand what it means to genuinely turn on the INTELLIGENCE of their WHOLE BODY - and break through the very real limitations of mental activity alone.

I have written a FABULOUS introduction to what I do, if I don't say so myself. Follow the magic link below and you'll get your very own copy of my e-book.

Dance!

(Still image from Towers, choreographed and filmed by Sarah Slifer Swift 2017)

Dance. That's what I love most.

But for years, I could not get my body to show up at a jam.

When I moved to Western MA, I was thrilled to realize I had landed in a region where dance thrives. But each time I got in the car to attend a jam, I literally had to keep a voice running in my head ("Just keep driving. Just get yourself into the room.") in order to avoid turning around.

Most of the time, I never got in the car.

It was a mystery to me. Why would I avoid something that I enjoyed so much?

What I understand now is that every time I prepared for the dance, I was bringing myself right up to the edge of a great leap.

If I dared to take that leap, I would be immersed in a field of human contact and connection, of joy and pleasure, of seeing and being seen.

In other words, exactly the kind of vulnerability that activated my trauma field!

So even though I could get myself to take that leap every couple of months, most of the time it was too great of an activation to overcome.

I now dance as often as my schedule will allow. I no longer spend the drive convincing myself not to turn around. Instead, I sing my favorite songs.

What created the change? I reclaimed my nervous system.

You see, no matter how much I analyzed, how much I meditated, how many healing workshops I attended, I had still not released the trauma that was held in my nervous system. And your nervous system always has the last word.

When your nervous system is activated it will be the loudest voice directing your body.

Why? Because your body is recalling information that is stored in the soma. It happens instantly, unconsciously.

Fortunately, the way to address it is quite simple: you need heart connection and warm attention to give your body the safety it needs to discharge the energy of your trauma field.

Healing in this way is about being human together. When you learn this skill, you liberate yourself into your own life, and you are available to support others to do the same.

If you are struggling to do the things you most want to do, let's talk. Email is best - hello@greenriverfc.com.

I am dedicated to providing my clients with the tools and support they need to become the beautiful Beings they already are!

The Best of Us

This phrase comes as I sit to compose this newsletter.

The best of us.

I am struck by the fact that this expression has three very distinct usages:

•An address to the elite (“we are the best and the brightest”)
•Mental or emotional capture (“don’t let it get the best of us”)
•An experience that brings out positive qualities (“it brought out the best in us”)

As I look at the three forms, I am fascinated that this one expression contains within it a healing movement:

1. Judgment and separation
2. Anger, sadness and despair
3. Inspiration and creative solutions

I noticed that most Solstice messages focus on the returning light. My focus these days is on being in the darkness. I get up around 3am or 4am most nights.
