“Respite care has allowed us the opportunity to spend quality time with our other children, given us the opportunity to reconnect with my spouse, and find the time to get back in the gym to exercise and reduce stress.”

The experience of being a family caregiver can be hard to describe to those who have never experienced it. It’s often a 24/7 job, on top of all of the other responsibilities that people have in life, like caring for other children, working full-time, staying on top of household responsibilities, and trying to make time to rest. When a parent’s own rest and recovery comes last, it can be hard to remain strong and hopeful as a caregiver. This is where respite care comes in.

Family caregivers need to take care of themselves and their mental health so that they can continue to care for others. Broadscope is proud to support family caregivers through the Respite Care Coordination program. This program takes the stress off of families by coordinating funding of in-home respite care and helping with administrative work, so that families and respite workers can focus on providing care.

What kind of impact does Broadscope have?

Broadscope aims to have a positive impact on the lives of people with disabilities and their families. We help our clients find opportunities to be a part of their own communities, like obtaining meaningful employment. When people with disabilities thrive, their communities thrive.

Studies have shown that companies that hire people with disabilities have increased productivity and revenue, which also helps boost the U.S. economy. It also increases spending within their own communities.

In 2024, there was a 100% retention rate for jobs placed and supported by the Broadscope Employment Services program. Staff also provided over 6,000 hours of direct support, which helps clients be successful at their jobs.

One client, Ryan, received a very well-deserved promotion because of his hard work and dedication to his job. Ryan enjoys working independently, which he can do because of the accommodations that Broadscope provides.

Broadscope is proud to help people with disabilities find opportunities and success that have a lasting impact. Please consider making a tax-deductible donation today, so that Broadscope can continue making a positive impact on so many lives. https://www.broadscope.org/help-us-build-a-more-inclusive-world/

Have you ever considered the barriers that might stop someone from enjoying the outdoors?
For people with disabilities, planning a nature walk or picnic in a park can be difficult. They need to consider accessibility of trails and transportation, among other logistics. Over the summer, the Independent Living program took a trip to the Schlitz Audubon Nature Center. The Nature Center has accessible trails that allowed everyone to participate in the trip.

One Independent Living client said, “Before coming here today I was feeling stressed and didn’t want to come today. Now that I am out here in nature, I feel so much better.”

We are so proud to be able to take trips like this with clients. Broadscope staff takes on the task of figuring out logistics needed to ensure the trip is accessible for all, while introducing clients to new places. Our goal is that clients will feel empowered to revisit these places independently, so they can continue to receive the benefits of things like enjoying nature.

Broadscope needs your help to continue supporting out Independent Living clients. A gift of only $25 can help us provide activities in the community, like the trip to the Schlitz Audubon Nature Center. Please consider making a tax-deductible donation today to help us build a more inclusive world.
