Yoga’s essential teaching is that we are full and complete. Our practice is designed to remind us of our fullness, not to make us complete.

This powerful mantra is from the Isha Upanishad, approximately 3000 years old.

The peak of summer is here! Days stretch long, and the sky is radiant with golden rays stretching across a cool, blue backdrop. It feels too hot to exert yourself outdoors, so you find yourself escaping to water sides to cool summer singed skin and wash the heat from your brow.
This is exactly what Ayurveda suggests to do in the peak of summer heat: to keep a cool head and peaceful disposition. Easy enough, right? Go swimming: Check. But what can you do when life does not allow you to answer the call of cool waters to relieve your July-boiled blood?
Ayurveda has immense wisdom on how to balance heat (Pitta) in your body, and Joyful Belly has all the practical tips you need to peacefully breeze through the July heat!
Get your Ayurvedic survival guide for July from our friends as Joyful Belly Ayurveda

It was so nice to be back in the studio offering trauma sensitive yoga today. I’ve been away from my mat for the last 2 months while healing an injury.

Returning today, my body felt a little creaky, but what I’ve learned from this practice is that it really and truly doesn’t matter. Yoga isn’t about flexibility… it’s about presence. Facilitating trauma sensitive yoga has allowed me to internalize this so deeply, because when I facilitate, I am practicing too. Everything I invite the group to do, I do too. I tune into myself, I make choices, I honor my needs.

This is what the practice is about—not the external shapes, but the internal attunement, and willingness to offer ourselves care.

What a gift this practice is to me. And what a gift it is to share with others, so that I am continually reminded of the very truths I need to hear.

I was just having a conversation with a friend about why we practice yoga. Is it about finding your bliss? Or is it about service?

What is the goal of your practice?
