Congratulations to Sue, a recent graduate of the Peripheral Artery Disease (PAD) program at Adair County Health System in Greenfield!
Peripheral artery disease narrows the arteries, typically in the legs, resulting in reduced blood flow. This often leads to a burning sensation and painful cramping during physical activities. The PAD rehabilitation program includes 36 structured exercise sessions conducted under supervision, designed to enhance leg circulation and strength, alleviate pain, and increase walking distances over a 12-week period.
When Sue first began, she struggled to walk for even two minutes at a speed of 1.2 mph on a flat surface. Today, as seen in the photo below with her therapist, Jim, she can walk for ten minutes at a pace of 2.2 mph on a 3% incline with minimal discomfort. Her Claudication Pain Scale score has improved significantly, dropping from 4 to a remarkable 1-2.
She notes that she can now walk much farther than before and has particularly felt the difference while grocery shopping, as she can navigate the store with ease.
Congratulations, Sue, for your impressive progress in the PAD program! Your dedication to improving your health and mobility is inspiring, and we applaud this incredible milestone!
