Meet Jeff Heise, MD, FACS, General Surgeon & Director of the Hancock Health Heartburn and Swallowing Center: youtube.com/watch?v=gAieH-K8z6Y&list=PLvxgtlzFUFz9bAfnq-TAL0wP87O3eG0Zo. 🎥

Dr. Jeff Heise brings skill, compassion, and decades of experience to Hancock Health, offering advanced surgical care with a personal touch. 🩺

Inspired early on by his love of science and his physician grandfather, Dr. Heise discovered his passion for surgery in medical school. What hooked him? The ability to help patients feel better right away. As he puts it, surgery often allows for “an instantaneous fix,” and seeing patients recover quickly is what makes his work so rewarding.

After earning his medical degree from the University of Southern Illinois and completing his general surgery residency with Michigan State University, Dr. Heise became a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons (FACS) and now leads the Hancock Health Heartburn and Swallowing Center. He is also one of the few surgeons in Indiana trained to perform the TIF procedure, a minimally invasive treatment for acid reflux.

Dr. Heise loves Hancock Health for its blend of excellence and connection. It's large enough to offer top-tier care, yet small enough that patients always feel seen and supported 🧡

We’re proud to have Dr. Heise on our team, delivering expert care that’s truly built around you. 🌟

📣

If you’ve ever walked through Hancock Health and caught the smell of something sweet, there’s a good chance it came from Grandma Sue. 🍰✨

Meet Sue Lawhead, one of our longest-serving volunteers, lovingly known by nearly everyone as Grandma Sue. For 28 years, she’s been sharing her time, her heart, and her homemade treats with our staff, patients, and visitors, bringing comfort in the form of brownies, peanut brittle (that doesn’t stick to your teeth, she’ll proudly tell you!), zucchini bread, and whatever else she decides to whip up that week. 😋

What started as a way to stay busy after losing her husband has become one of the most beloved traditions at Hancock Health. Her joy, humor, and generosity are part of what makes this place feel like family, and we are endlessly grateful. 🧡

Thank you, Grandma Sue, for filling our halls with warmth, laughter, and the very best brownies in Indiana!

Inspired by Sue’s story? Want to make a difference in your community too? 👉 Volunteer with us! Your time and talents can bring joy and comfort to so many. Learn more and apply today: hancockhealth.org/about/volunteer-opportunities. 🔗

Congratulations to Dr. Rudo Mashindi, featured on the cover of Indianapolis Monthly’s Top Doctors issue! ✨

Each year, Indianapolis Monthly asks physicians across Central Indiana to nominate the colleagues they trust most for exceptional care, and this year, 43 Hancock Health physicians earned a spot on the 2025 list, including Dr. Mashindi. 🏆

As a Family Medicine physician, Dr. Mashindi is known for her compassionate, whole-person approach to care and for empowering women to better understand and navigate every stage of life. 🩺

In her Top Docs feature, she shares valuable insight on perimenopause, describing it as a transformation rather than a breakdown: “The more you understand what’s happening in your body, the more empowered you are to advocate for your needs.” 💬

From nutrition and exercise to mindfulness and community connection, Dr. Mashindi reminds us that informed care starts with understanding, and that’s exactly what she delivers every day at Hancock Health. 🧡
