🎙️New Elegantly Unhinged podcast episode is live!

Heart health isn’t just cholesterol.
It’s stress physiology.
It’s sleep.
It’s blood sugar.

If your nervous system is stuck in fight-or-flight, optimizing your numbers won’t move the needle.

Midlife bodies don’t need more discipline.
They need more regulation.

In this episode, I break down:
✨ Why stress is a cardiometabolic event
✨ The sleep–blood sugar connection
✨ Why under-fueling backfires
✨ What steadiness actually looks like

You can’t out-discipline dysregulation.

Falling off happens.
The shame and stress spike that follows doesn’t have to.

When you push through exhaustion, your body doesn’t read that as discipline. It reads it as stress.

Stress affects your nervous system.Your nervous system affects blood sugar.Blood sugar affects heart health.

So if you’re off track this week (like me!🙋‍♀️) — stabilize.
✨ Eat something real✨ Move your body gently✨ Sleep a little more✨ Breathe slower

Then return.

No guilt. No shame.

Heart health isn’t just about cholesterol.Blood sugar stability may be the missing piece. 🩸💙

If your energy crashes, triglycerides run high or labs feel “fine” but you don’t—this matters.

❄️ Winter nourishment isn’t just about what you eat. It’s about whether your body feels safe enough to use it.

When the nervous system feels supported:
✨ Digestion becomes more effective
✨ Nutrients are absorbed more efficiently
✨ Blood sugar is more stable
✨ Metabolism functions optimally

That’s why I love the Winter Plate Formula this season:
• Something warm 🔥
• Something grounding 🌾
• Something sustaining 🥑
• Something satisfying 🍲

Warmth, protein + fiber, healthy fat, and satisfaction signal safety — not stress.

And safety is a prerequisite for regulation. 💛

❤️When it comes to heart health, we’ve been trained to fixate on a single number: cholesterol.

But heart health is rarely about one number — it’s about patterns.🫀

Instead look at the bigger picture:
✔ triglycerides
✔ HDL levels
✔ triglyceride-to-HDL ratio
✔ metabolic health markers
✔ lifestyle factors (stress management, sleep quality, physical activity, food choices)

Why? Because someone with “normal total cholesterol” but high triglycerides + low HDL may still be at increased heart risk.📈

This is especially important in midlife, when hormones, stress, sleep and blood sugar all shift.
✨If cholesterol has ever confused or scared you—this post is for you.

❤️ Heart health isn’t just about cholesterol — and it definitely isn’t just about fat.

One of the biggest drivers of unhealthy lipid patterns?
👉 Added sugar.

🍬Higher sugar intake is consistently linked with:
• higher triglycerides
• lower HDL (“protective” cholesterol)
• more inflammation
• insulin resistance

That means you can have “normal cholesterol” and still be moving in the wrong direction for heart health.

Triglycerides matter.🫀
Ratios matter.
Context matters.

I break all of this down—without fear or outdated advice—in my latest blog post.

Heart Health Month 💙
Let’s clear something up—fat is not the enemy of your heart.

Certain fats are essential for:
✔ vascular health
✔ inflammation balance
✔ blood sugar regulation
✔ hormone support (hello, midlife)

Some of my favorite heart-healthy fats:
🥑 olive oil & avocado
🐟 fatty fish & other seafood
🌰 nuts & seeds (like chia, flax & h**p)

One of the most sustainable approaches?
👉 Using most fats as flavor, not as the entire meal.

And cholesterol?
That conversation needs a serious update too—blog post coming next.

What are your favorite heart-healthy fats? (I write, as I’m snacking on some almonds rn!)

February is Heart Health Month ❤️

And here’s the truth we don’t talk about enough:
For midlife adults, heart health isn’t just about avoiding disease—it’s about supporting your energy, metabolism, brain🧠, and long-term health🫀.
Your heart is deeply affected by:
• how you eat
• how you move
• how you sleep
• how stressed (or supported) your nervous system is

Food matters🥗—but so do movement🚶‍♀️, sleep😴, stress resilience 🌿 and under-fueling (esp for anyone who’s spent decades dieting). Heart health is whole-body health—and midlife is the moment to shift from restriction → nourishment.

💡 Follow along this month for practical nutrition guidance, lifestyle tips and simple, heart-supportive recipes—no extremes, no fear-mongering, no diet culture nonsense.

Your heart isn’t fragile.
But it does need consistency.

Winter isn’t neutral for your body.❄️🥶

Less sunlight, colder temps, disrupted routines, and stress mean your nervous system and metabolism are already working harder. That’s why nourishment—not overhaul—matters right now.💛

In winter, nutrition support often looks like:
🐟 omega-3s for brain + inflammation support
🫶 magnesium for stress + sleep
🔥 enough protein for blood sugar stability
🥣 fiber-rich carbs for steady energy

This isn’t giving up. It’s supporting your body wisely.

I wrote more about winter nutrition and a gentler reset in today’s blog—and I also created a free Winter Warming Foods Recipe Guide with 20 cozy, nourishing recipes to help you support your body this season 🧣🥣
