If your child is autistic, you're not alone. Current statistics are 1 out of 36 eight year old children is autistic.
This chart explains the rise in the prevalence of autism.
Autism has always been a neurotype, we continue to learn about autism, the diagnostic criteria has broadened, and early intervention has been helpful for families to get a diagnosis and the resources they need.
I support autistic children and their families on their journey with speech devices (AAC). Reach out today if you need support! I'd love to come alongside you!

Let’s talk about the rise in Autism diagnoses over time. First up- it’s actually never been 1 in 100,000 or even 1 in 10,000.
It WAS 4 in 10,000 when it was first studied, before Autism was added as its own category in the DSM. We see the biggest jump in the 1990s where the DSM added broader qualifying criteria AND more people were aware of the existence of Autism.
While editing, I accidentally deleted my legend - the y axis is the autism prevalence 1 in X - so 1966 is 1 in 2222 and 2023 is 1 in 36.
I’ll be talking more about the Autism Prevalence in the coming days, so let me know what questions you have or what information you would like to see ⤵️
