I’m excited to support such a noble cause!
The Buddhist monks' Walk For Peace is headed to Greensboro!
Greensboro Mayor Marikay Abuzuaiter and members of the City Council will welcome the monks by presenting a proclamation at their stop at Grandover Resort on Monday.
The group is on the 83rd day of a 120-day walk that began in Fort Worth, TX, and will end in Washington, DC, covering over 2,300 miles at the trip's end. The monks say their message is simple: to raise awareness of peace, loving kindness, and compassion across America and the world.
The monks will arrive in Greensboro and the Triad on Monday, January 19. Here is the schedule.
•From 10-11 am, there will be a program at Truist Point Stadium, 301 N Elm Street in High Point.
•They will leave Truist Point Stadium between 1 and 2 pm, and begin an estimated four-hour walk to Grandover Resort, arriving between 5 and 6 pm.
•Monks will then prep for crowds and visitation from 6 and 9 pm. Visitation/speaking will take place at a designated area outside. The Greensboro Police Department will assist with safety and crowd control measures.
A few things to remember if you plan on welcoming the monks
The Walk for Peace is a moving meditation. Attendees are asked to maintain a quiet, calm, and respectful presence.
• When greeting the monks, place your hands together in prayer and bow.
• Please refrain from physical contact, including handshakes, hugs, or high-fives.
• Silence or gently averted eyes are considered respectful.
Physical Contact and Gender Respect:
Many monks take vows that prohibit physical contact with the opposite gender. Attendees are asked not to reach out or attempt physical contact.
Offerings and Donations:
The monks live under vows of non-attachment and poverty. They do not handle money or material gifts and have paused accepting offerings at this time.
We are thrilled to welcome our guests. Please put your best foot forward in treating their wish for peace with respect.
