3 variations of umbilical cords here between these placentas. Can you guess what they are?

I was recently asked to paint these specific cords types for a beautiful friend. It brought me much joy to sit down and study some of my past placentas because I had a reference for each one!

Placentas are as unique as each baby and each pregnancy. It’s the only transient organ humans grow. But, that doesn’t equate them to being mere after birth discard, at least in my opinion. They are worth some recognition and admiration for their advocacy, protection, and sustainability in the transition from womb to world.

First placenta of spring!

This beauty had a really serene, almost cool energy force within it. I love documenting the physical characteristics as well as the spiritual and energetic qualities of these womb twins.

I often wonder if the placenta is complimentary or contrasting of energy to its baby. This transient organ may act as a filter, but truly it’s an advocate. It calls to mother’s body, requesting exactly what is needed, then ensures the right nutrients are delivered to baby.

A mother within a mother, how exquisite is nature’s design?!

Sent out a sweet little umbilical cord tie today. I love how gentle these are for cord clamping instead of the bulky, plastic kind that often pull on baby’s stump delaying healing by causing irritation.

I crochet these myself with 100% wool yarn or 100% cotton yarn, both ethically sourced. You can find various designs in my Etsy store!

Overjoyed to now offer private and group Birth Art sessions!

Art-making in birth preparation and in postpartum debriefing gives parents the experience of moving into their creative and intuitive mind. This is the space of birth. But, it’s also the space of healing, beliefs, sensuality, insights, and solutions. The philosophy here is not about analyzing the art or outcome, but spending time in the unfolding and meeting the path before you with peace, intuition, and understanding.

My first placenta for October. This mama’s placenta was processed into capsules and a tincture, and was memorialized with a blood print and cord keepsake. I’ve never had such a perfectly circular placenta before. I enjoy the uniqueness of each womb twin, their energy, and their story. They mothered that babe within the mother; advocated for, nourished, protected, and healed. So incredible is this transient organ, worthy of some reverence.

One of four placentas to fill my hands this week!

This was a rich, juicy, and heavy one. I imagine how fervently she fed and protected that baby in womb. Now she’s medicine for mama.

The placenta is our first advocate, a mother within a mother if you will. Her entire existence is to nurture and sustain, she does that so well even under challenging circumstances.

It’s , but for the first time in 5 years I’m not breastfeeding.

It was half a decade for me and my babies. It was work and it was love. It both came naturally to me and required me to seek support and help. My story consists of pump parts, bottles, tongue ties, exclusive breastfeeding, and extended breastfeeding.

The very part of my body I held in shame for being so small, showed up in the biggest way for my babies. I’ve never been more proud of these itty bitties.

Breastmilk given in years or just a few mLs is invaluable and worth celebrating. In the same breath, however you feed your baby is important and wonderful. Breastfeeding doesn’t work for every family; if you choose peace and love as your intention while you feed your baby and you won’t ever be wrong.
