✨Last week, I was invited to a kickball game ☺️🏃🏾‍♀️🏃🏾‍♂️🏐 I don’t think I’ve played kickball since the 90s, so I was overjoyed!

✨On this Top-Tier Temple Tuesday, this is simply a reminder that moving your body/exercising can be
P U R E L Y recreational !

🙌🏾My favorite part of the afternoon was making some new community connections, dancing, laughing out loud at people’s competitive shenanigans 😆and engaging in some playful sh** talking 😊

❤️Everybody was really just there to have a good time!

✨That night, while I was soaking in a hot epsom salt bath because ya girl was sOrE 🥴 (some of those muscles hadn’t been activated in a WHILE🙃) I started thinking about the vast amount of highly physical childhood games we’d play, just because.

✅Whether it was climbing trees 🌳 racing - on foot or 🚲, wandering around the neighborhood for hours, bravely exploring uncharted territories, or a classic game of hide and go seek, it was all kinda magical frfr.

✨Anyway, we grow up & our priorities inevitably shift.
But, I hope we always remember the positive mental, emotional and physical impact of those youthful games. All that to say, as we enter the warmer seasons 🌞if you’re lucky enough to hear about adults hosting a game of tug of war, flag football, pickup soccer, or a game of tag, I encourage you to GO PLAY! 🪩Cause no matter how old we get, playfully competing never gets old! Plus you get all the benefits of a workout, but in a more carefree and lighthearted way! 💪🏾

✨Peace y’all ✌🏾 I once saw a quote that read something like, “We often overestimate what we can accomplish in one year and underestimate what we can accomplish in one month” and that always stuck with me!

✨On this Top-Tier Temple Tuesday, as we slowly but surely begin to enter hotter, spring temperatures🌺 - a season where you can’t really hide or conceal your body or health habits anymore - I want to encourage everyone to have an HONEST and REAL conversation about a health goal you’ve been putting off and/or a goal you’ve been giving yourself WAY TOO LONG to accomplish.

✨Maybe it’s quitting smoking or losing weight or better skin or building muscle or cleaner eating - whatever the case is - I can GUARANTEE you that you don’t need a whole year to accomplish it.

✨This is just a simple reminder that we rarely need more time to accomplish our goals. What we need is more intention and more focus. (I’m talking to myself too btw).

✨ultimately, MIRACULOUSLY TRANSFORMATIVE things can happen within 30 days, with your health goals - and even your life goals - when you simply decide to completely lock in!! LET’S GOOO!

It’s been a minute since I’ve brought up the insane importance of gut health. So, on this Top-Tier Temple Tuesday, I wanna highlight some gut-enhancing staples that everyone should keep in their kitchen!

✅They all powerfully assist our gut in doing its job at the BEST level.

✅Not only is our gut responsible for digestion, it’s also LARGELY responsible for our IMMUNITY and even our MENTAL HEALTH!

🤔Why mental health??

✨Well, our gut is in CONSTANT communication with our brain via the vagus nerve. So much so, that the gut has even been called our second brain 🧠
That’s where we get the timeless sayings like “Trust your gut” or “I just had a gut feeling about it.”

✨We’ve said/heard those saying so much that we might forget where it even stems from n the first place.

But, PLEASE understand that the health/the state of our gut influences our thoughts, our mood, and our likelihood of getting sick, TREMENDOUSLY.

🗣️Simply put, QUALITY INPUT = QUALITY OUTPUT!
The adverse is true, too.
There is no way around this.

✅So! try incorporating one or all of these gut-boosting suggestions into your daily lifestyle, and see how much better you feel overall !🧘🏾‍♀️

*Fermented Foods (like kimchi, pickles, and sauerkraut)

🎉👰🏾‍♀️🤵🏿Y’all  - today my beautiful parents celebrate their 53rd wedding anniversary!!

What’s even wilder than being married that long is that they’ve known each other since elementary school 🥹 - like, legit since the 1950s 😭

✨Their relationship makes me think of SO many things on a personal, emotional,  and cultural level. 

✨But, on this Top-Tier Temple Tuesday, in the health realm, the quote “genetics loads the gun, lifestyle pulls the trigger” comes to mind. 

✨From the  fullness of our cheeks to our overall build/shape/figure, parents pass down SO MANY genes to their children and even grandchildren. While many  genes are flat out  inescapable (i.e. our height, skin complexion, hair texture, nose shape) - when it comes to things, particularly diseases, that “run in the family” I want us to be ever vigilant about them, but I also want to remind you that they ARE escapable.

✨You CAN escape certain “bad” genes just by choosing different lifestyle choices, CONSISTENTLY.

✨ Whether it’s alcoholism, obesity, cancer, depression, diabetes, hypertension, extreme anxiety, or substance abuse,   if you KNOW your mom or dad  has a particular illness or ailment they struggle with, then YES, understand that there may be a higher possibility that you could get it and do your research to learn more about it & how to prevent it,  but ALSO remember that your dominant lifestyle ULTIMATELY determines how healthy you are,  NOT your genetics. 

✨You can even turn “on” and “off” bad and good genes based on how you live your life (the foods u eat, exercise etc). The field of epigenetics explores this more and I’m really fascinated by it 🤓

So, on this day, I encourage you to FULLY EMBRACE those AWESOME genes our parents have passed down to us (liike..it’s actually a miracle frfr- genes blending together to create a whole new human)

That said - I also want you to become curious about their health profile- so that you can better position yourself to live a prosperous life. And lastly - if youre not already - I also want you to start engaging in healthy activities with one or both of your parents. It genuinely makes a difference - in their life and yours ❤️❤️❤️❤️

🌹Happy Valentine’s Day Eve beautiful people! ☺️

In the midst of buying gifts and showin love to others, this is a simple reminder to 🗣️MAKE SURE that you are showing that same overflow of love to yourself - regardless of your relationship status. Whether it’s taking yourself to a nice restaurant, fully spending the day, indulgently, in whatever way you wish to, or taking a long, luxurious bath, make sure you’re pouring love - even romantic love - into yourself first and foremost 💕

We all know that Valentine’s Day is just another day BUT it can still be a lil touchy (for various reasons) so I pray that your spirit is nourished lovingly and that your love cup runneth over in the most wonderful way this weekend ❤️ I love you!

✨On this Top-Tier temple Tuesday, I wanna share a handful of things that I’m doing to try to keep my body in top-tier condition during the winter. Honestly, in colder months, I often just wanna lay around, scroll, stream, eat, and sleep. And, while the winter definitely calls for more of a slow, hibernation vibe, TOO MUCH  lazing about can  start to work against us, physically AND mentally.

So, peop the list below 😉 Pls use what resonates 🙏🏾

1. BEING ACTIVE OUTSIDE DAILY 🫀
 Whether it’s hiking, yardwork, ice skating or a brisk walk around the block,  studies show that there are MULTIPLE physical benefits - especially for the heart - to being active in cold weather.

2. WHOLE FOODS 🥚🥑
Even though I may be indulging in a lil more sweets this season 🤫I STILL make sure that I’m consuming MOSTLY  plants and/or single- ingredient & nutrient-dense foods. But it all starts with your groceries - those become your MAIN options.

3. VEGGIE SNACK PLATES 🫛🍅
These be hittin fr fr 🤤
Season them  how you like. Then  saute, grill, or steam them.  Ofc you can eat them raw, too.
The awesome thing about eating veggies is that your body is getting a HIGH amount of nutrition,  but LOW amounts of calories and sugar - all while feeling fuller, longer. 

4. MINI 10 MINUTE WORKOUTS 🏃🏾‍♀️

Whether that be sprinting up steps, doing sets of pushups & jumping jacks, or hopping on the stair master for 10 solid minutes I KNOW I can commit to at least 10 minutes! Not every workout needs to be super long anyway.  The key is to do SOMETHING everyday. And, do it wholeheartedly.

5. GETTING CUTE AROUND THE HOUSE 💁🏾‍♀️
Ngl,  it is kinda nice to look like a ragamuffin around the house sometimes 😁. But, looking homely, too many days in a row 👀can start to have a  negative effect. looking sloppy kinda makes me feel like I can eat sloppy and just be sloppy 🫠However, being deliberate abt my appearance, even when no one’s gonna see me, truly puts me on a healthier, happier, clearer, more productive wavelength ✨

6. HEALTH BOOSTING POWDERS!
Herb & root powders can be used in so many ways. More on this later!🌿

🗣️✨There are certain health staples everybody should have in their home & BLACK SEED OIL IS ONE OF THEM!!

🙌🏾I could bring my laptop (and my appetite ☺️) and really post up in a beautiful place like this all day.

🍓🍉Whether you need a freshly made jar of sea moss, a refreshing cold-pressed juice, some shea butter, herbs for your tea, a mouthwatering smoothie, or a savory lunch item (jerk chicken sandwich - I have my eye on you for next time 🤤) THIS IS THE PLACE FOR YOU !

✅ If you’re not in Greensboro, I encourage you to still seek out cafes and local eateries in your area that focus on wellness. Places like this are truly a gem and deserve ALL the business!

Even just being in an environment like this makes me want to choose better options.

✨When I first started my wellness journey many many moons ago, I always used to think “sheesh. There should really be more healthy cafes where I can go chill, work on a few things, and order something nutritious AND scrumptious. So, seeing places like this materialize truly makes my heart smile and lets me know that the tides are truly shifting. And, btw, it’s Black woman owned, too! 💁🏾‍♀️ HUGE s/o to the owner for having the vision and bringing it to fruition 💯❤️✊🏾

Happy Friday y’all  ✨🙏🏾 Make some tea with me!

🫖🌿 Please be sure to incorporate hot herbal tea into your daily or weekly routines. Not only is hot tea a tasty, ancient, warm treat, especially when you fix it up how you like, but herbal teas are BURSTING with benefits (i.e. reduced stress, boosted immunity, hydration, relaxation, improved digestion, promotes better sleep, pain reduction, packed with antioxidants, and caffeine free. 

✨And the cool thing is: the benefits  vary depending on which herb(s) you use/choose! God really snapped when creating herbs frfr.

✨Per usual, this post isn’t about shaming anyone who still eats or wants conventional fast food 🍔🍟

Cause we’re def not gonna sit up here and act like some of these combos arent slammin sometimes 😋

However the EXTREME levels of seed oils, preservatives, pesticides, fake ingredients, and chemicals that it takes to produce once combo is pretty ridiculous 🫩 and therefore fast food is never good for your heart, mind, body, or soul on a frequent level. Once, maybe twice a month should be more than enough.

🚘Furthermore, the time youre spending waiting in the drive thru line is probably the same amt of time it would take to pop into a spot & grab or make something filling, nutritious and delicious!

🚨PER MY LAST POST!

✨After Bey got off the scale, she just said “Let’s get it.”

No meltdowns or overreactions.
That’s ultimately the mindset I want every person to have when it comes to their weight (especially losing weight.)

There’s NEVER any  need to fear the scale or make the # about how worthy or unworthy you are.  We are all inherently worthy- not much can change that.

That said,  we can’t be too delusional either. So, we need to have an overall IDEA of our weight. Otherwise, weight blindness can set in QUICK.

Like I said in the previous vid, the # on the scale is just a NEUTRAL reflection of our MOST DOMINANT habits. Dassit!

✨Moreover, she had just had twins &  was preparing for arguably the greatest performance of her life. And, in true Beyoncè/workaholic form, she was going to reach her weight goals come hell or highwater. 

✨Whether it was cutting out sugar and bread or only eating fruits & veggies, our girl was gonna reach that goal.

Now, you ain’t gotta be that extreme with it! 🚨

✨But I DO believe we owe it to ourselves to maintain a lifestyle where we’re genuinely HAPPY with our weight and comfortable in the skin we’re in. As humans, we always tend to numerically track what is important to us (i.e. bank account, sports scores, blood pressure, prices, investments). So, let’s learn to be okay with adding our WEIGHT onto that list, too 🙏🏾

✨Peace y’all! For this Top-Tier Temple Tuesday - let’s talk about weight! In this vid,  I’m giving 4 no nonsense tips to track your weight so you feel empowered.  

⚖️Tap in & lemme know what resonates the most and/or provide some tips on how you successfully manage your weight.

✅My video cut off @ the end,  but I was gonna continue to say that 140lbs is my threshold weight because after 140, I start to feel more sluggish and tired.

My steps start feeling heavier. My clothes start fitting weird and my face starts looking more pillowy.  And, that’s not a good look *for me*!

I don’t like how that feels. 

✨Plus,  I’m short so weight gain shows up A LOT more quickly on me.

~ Obviously, no two people have the same body - even twins! (i.e different muscle mass, body composition,  height, lifestyles etc) so our threshold weights will all be different & there’s no need to compare. But PLEASE come up with/know your threshold weight so you can keep your body in check, especially in the winter 🥶 where it can be easy to overeat since we’re spending so much more time indoors.
