Keep doing crafts!

A new study by Keyes and fellow researchers has found that engaging in creative activities can significantly boost well-being by providing meaningful spaces for expression and achievement.

Are smartphones harming your teen's sleep and mental health?

In today's digital world, teens are more connected than ever, but at what cost? While smartphones offer many benefits, excessive screen time could affect their sleep patterns and overall well-being.

From late-night scrolling to constant notifications, these habits may disrupt their much-needed rest and mental health.

There is a need beneath every behavior. When need to focus on the need, rather than the behaviour. This is how you get to the root cause.

Bottling feelings only sets you up for mental health strains and can compromise your physical health. Let's start practicing healthy ways to express our feelings to become healthier!

You deserve to show and express all of your emotions. Experiencing sadness is human. Being able to be vulnerable is a strength, not a weakness.

Happy Wednesday, everyone! In the midst of a busy week, think of 3 things that you're grateful for on this Wednesday. Remember, it's possible to find inner peace even when you're not physically alone.

I'd also like to take a second to introduce myself. I am Carrington Wright, a graduate student at North Carolina A&T State University. This is my third (and final) year in the Clinical Mental Health Counseling program, and I will be working with Lesia to gain experience as a practicum student.

While healing from Trauma is no easy task, it is certainly doable. In fact, it becomes easier to realize that healing is possible once you take the first step. You just might be wondering how this journey begins. At Essence of Hope Counseling & Wellness Center, PLLC, we utilize the Three Stages to Trauma Recovery to support adults through trauma. There are several steps in the process that can lead to improved wellness after traumatic experiences.

In the first stage of the journey, we begin by helping clients to establish personal safety. This includes promoting good self-care, teaching emotion regulation (i.e.,acknowledging
and working through feelings and reactions that are related to  the trauma), disscussing  maladaptive thinking, and helping the client
learn more about inner strengths.

Moving on to the second stage, there are two main steps. The first involves processing the trauma. Next, clients must mourn losses created by the trauma.

Finally, in stage three, clients learn to develop new beliefs about themsselves, and they learn ways to reconnect in the world by engaging in meaningful activities. We also encourage reconnecting with supportive people. While this seems like it might be the end of the therapeutic journey, we go a step further and support clients in creating a resilience plan in order to ensure continued success.

If you have experienced a trauma, and you believe that you could benefit from such a strategy, please call us at Essence of Hope Counseling & Wellness Center, PLLC today!

According to the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI), one out of every five adults and one out of every six young people experience a mental illness yearly. As we wrap up Mental Illness Awareness week, let us be reminded of three important things we can do to improve overall wellness.

1) Work to eradicate mental health stigma.

2) Realize the benefits of treatments.

3) Find or provide continued support.

Please talk with someone today if you are facing emotional, psychological, or social challenges.
