Flossing may lower your risk of more than 50 systemic diseases.

Most people see flossing as a small hygiene step — something that just prevents cavities or stops gums from bleeding.

But gum inflammation is not just local irritation. It is biologically active. Inflamed gums release inflammatory mediators, and harmful oral bacteria can enter the bloodstream during everyday activities like chewing. This phenomenon, called transient bacteremia, is well documented in medical literature.

Over time, untreated periodontal disease has been associated with serious systemic conditions, including:

• Cardiovascular disease and stroke
• Poorly controlled type 2 diabetes
• Pregnancy complications
• Respiratory infections
• Rheumatoid arthritis
• Cognitive decline and Alzheimer’s disease
• Chronic kidney disease

The connection is inflammatory and microbial.

When plaque builds up between teeth, it creates an oxygen-poor environment where pathogenic bacteria thrive. The immune system responds continuously. That chronic inflammatory burden can influence blood vessels, insulin regulation, endothelial health, and even brain tissue.

Flossing physically disrupts that bacterial biofilm in areas a toothbrush cannot reach.

It reduces the bacterial load.
It lowers gum inflammation.
It decreases repeated episodes of bacteria entering the bloodstream.

This is not cosmetic dentistry. It is preventive health care that starts in the mouth.

Oral health and systemic health are biologically connected. A simple daily habit — interdental cleaning — is one of the most practical, evidence-based steps you can take to protect both.

Small habit. Whole-body impact.

We hope everyone had a wonderful holiday season.

We were scheduled to reopen today, however due to ongoing remodeling that was not completed as planned, we will need to delay our reopening.

We now plan to reopen on Tuesday, January 6th.

Please note that while we will be open, there may still be some light construction taking place as final touches are completed.

We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience and truly appreciate your patience and understanding.

We look forward to welcoming you back to our newly remodeled office very soon!

Warm Regards,

As many of you know, our assistant Jamie was expecting, and in August she and her husband welcomed a beautiful baby boy, Emeth. 💙 We are so excited for her and share in the joy of this special new chapter.

At the same time, we do want to let you know that Jamie has made the decision not to return to work so she can dedicate this season to her family. While we will truly miss her presence in the office, we wholeheartedly support her choice and wish her nothing but happiness.

Please join us in congratulating Jamie and her family on the arrival of little Emeth! 🎉✨

A little educational information from the ADA….

“Researchers have examined the effects of smoking on the survival of dental implants.

In a study published in the Journal of Periodontology, the researchers recruited 29 patients with pocket depths of five millimeters or less and one or more missing teeth. The participants were divided on the basis of their smoking status: 11 of them used more than 20 ci******es daily, while 18 of them used no ci******es. The researchers then assessed clinical factors such as marginal bone height, peri-implant pocket depth, implant stability, bleeding on probing and plaque index at dental implant placement and after a period of 15, 24 and 67 weeks.

Compared with those who didn’t smoke, the patients who did smoke had a lower rate of implant survival and about twice the level of marginal bone loss. Further, the researchers observed slightly lower rates of implant stability in the smoking group compared with the nonsmoking group.

The researchers hypothesized that smoking heavily could impede bone healing and immune function — highlighting the critical need to recommend smoking cessation strategies prior to dental implant placement.”
