Phillip Ward is a North Carolina and California Licensed Acupuncturist and a Nationally Certified Herbalist. He committed to walking the path of a healer in 1995, when he began studying the art of harmonious living with a tai chi and qi gong master. Who’s up for a wellness and weight loss challenge?! This is going to be fun, obtainable, and effective! Everything is more fun when we feel good! So our goals will be simple: more energy, better health, and to lose some unwanted weight! Here’s how it will work:

-This is a 10 week program taking us right up to Thanksgiving.

-We will meet every Saturday or Sunday on Zoom, for a short check-in, pep talk, progress report, Q&A, tips, tricks, recipes, many laughs, and possibly a good cry.

-You do not need a gym membership or any exercise equipment. Just show up and keep showing up for yourself and the group and you will see results. Compliance is the Science!

-The initial fee is only $100, that’s $10 a week! But if you get lazy and stop showing up for yourself and the group, that price can change : )

If you have brain fog, a sluggish or loose digestive system, IBS, ulcerative colitis or other inflammatory bowel diseases it is highly likely your gut microbiome is less than optimal. When attempting to enhance the gut flora there are a couple of key points to remember:
-Include a variety of fruits and veggies throughout the week. So eating the same thing everyday is not recommended unless you are on an elimination diet.
-Include probiotic and prebiotic foods with most meals.
-Start slow. A teaspoon or so is fine, then work your way up if you desire as your digestive system adjusts to this new healthy overhaul.

A few tips that I include in my microbiome enhancing daily smoothies:

-Add kefir AND yogurt. A half cup of each is a nice addition to a smoothie or protein shake.
-Add a non digestible starch such as a half or whole green banana.
-Add blueberries, strawberries, and room temperature green tea. The gut microbiome love polyphenol.
-And if you want to get adventurous add a tablespoon of your favorite kraut, YES, to your smoothies haha. Trust me, if you are a fan of sweet and savory in combo this will make your brain and tastebuds do cartwheels. The sweet of the berries and the salt from the kraut is bang on. Blend the bejeus out of it and indulge. So good.

A few milligrams of medicine will never influence your health as much as the thousands of pounds of food you will eat in your lifetime. Nor how much you move your body and the relationships you chose to engage in.

If you are tired of being sick and tired, fatigued and unmotivated the Five Pillars of Health in your life are likely not being sufficiently addressed. In this workshop we will explore the Five main areas in your life that must be in balance in order for health, healing, and an abundance of energy to occur. -$327 BILLION dollars a year in medical expenses is the total cost of this disease alone in the US.

However, for most Type 2 diabetes is preventable, and even reversible, with a healthy diet and active lifestyle.

In other words, don’t gripe about the cost of health insurance with a mouth full of Doritos and Mountain Dew ; )

Sleep! It’s the best medicine for our body, minds, and emotions. But go to bed early! Especially if you are recovering for an illness, hard workout, or emotional trauma. For optimal results shoot for a 9:30pm-10pm bedtime.

The most restorative sleep for our body and brain happens early in the night during the “slow wave” sleep cycle. During slow wave sleep our bodies produce loads of the good stuff, such as growth hormone, that help us restore, recover, and rejuvenate. This is no secret to professional athletes, the best of the best have always known to go to bed early.

Sunday movement challenge. Let’s go!

30-20-10 Reps

-Push ups

-Hip Raises

-Side Plank or Side Plank Twist (both sides)

-Jump Squats

-Calf Raises

-Plank for 60 seconds
-Horse Stance for 60 seconds

Here’s how it works: Three rounds of
30-20-10

Round One: 30 reps of each exercise. Except on the side planks just hold for 30 seconds.

Round Two: 20 reps. 20 second side plank.

Round Three: 10 reps. 10 second side plank.

At the end of each round plank for 60 seconds. Then horse stance for 60 seconds, deep horse stance if at all possible.

Add a focusing exercise to this workout by not using a timer. Count the seconds silently in your “head” for the planks and horse stances.
And nose breathing only! In and out through the nose : ) If you must mouth breathe, back off of the intensity a bit and get back to nose breathing only as soon as possible. Let me know how it goes! And tag a friend to join you.

My morning anti-inflammatory tonic! I recommend drinking this on an empty stomach early in the day. If possible wait at least 30 minutes to an hour before eating a meal, but if you can, fast until lunch after consuming. This drink does contain caffeine (if you include the matcha powder) so you might want to leave it out if you are sensitive or are making the drink later in the day. Also if you have acid reflux, GERD, heartburn, proceed with caution. Disclaimer: this is not medical advice or a substitute for the vaccine or any prescribed medication. If you have a health condition of any kind ask your licensed medical practitioner before consuming this drink. If you are pregnant or nursing do not consume this drink. If you suffer from night sweats proceed with caution.

-1/2 cup of water
-1 teaspoon of extra virgin olive oil
-2 tablespoons of apple cider vinegar
-1/2 teaspoon of matcha powder
-1/2 teaspoon of turmeric powder
-1/3 to 1/2 teaspoon of cinnamon
-the juice of a lime or lemon
-pinch of sea salt
-3/4 inch piece of peeled raw ginger
-And if you fancy… 1/2 or one teaspoon of black seed oil
Thoroughly blend, drink, and get ready to dance!

These three beauties are fantastic for regulating the lower jioa, which translates to treating things such as irregular menstruation, proctitis, proctosigmoiditis, and even hemorrhoids.
